Arsenal has signed Fabio Vieira from Porto for a fee of £34 million

In a deal of 40 million euros (about 34.2 million pounds), Arsenal have successfully finalised the acquisition of midfielder Fabio Vieira from Porto.

On June 17th, Porto issued a statement indicating that the Gunners will pay an initial sum of 35 million euros (or around £29.9 million) for the 22-year-old player, with the remainder to be paid in prospective add-ons.

Vieira has reportedly put pen to paper on a multi-year deal with Arsenal, which the club just revealed. “I’m thrilled that we found and signed such a great player,” said Mikel Arteta, the manager of the Gunners. Despite the fact that Vieira has not yet earned a senior cap for Portugal, he was selected as the tournament’s most valuable player in the European Under-21 Championship in 2017.

Last season, he helped Porto win the Portuguese top division by scoring six goals and providing a league-high 14 assists in 27 games. Everyone at Arsenal is excited about the prospect of working with him and seeing the positive impact he will have in the future.

The signing of Vieira is the third summer acquisition for the Gunners, after that of American goalkeeper Matt Turner and young Brazilian attacker Marquinhos. “This is an important step forward in my career,” Vieira told Arsenal’s official website.

“It certainly was a fast process. It was something that I was drawn to. Meeting the people at the club was a real positive for me. I’m loving it here and I’m here to give the team my all.

“I’m an attacking player who looks to find space between the lines, to be able to finish off moves either with assists or by scoring goals.

“I think those are the main attributes that Arsenal fans can expect from me.”
