The match began with Australia’s captain, Aaron Finch, winning the toss and requesting India to bat first. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli failed to create an impression and left on a low note. KL Rahul, on the other hand, maintained his excellent form. After achieving a fifty against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup, the right-handed batsman once again surpassed the fifty-mark. Suryakumar Yadav also contributed a key 25-ball 46. Hardik Pandya then ended the innings with a hat trick of sixes, helping India reach 208/6 in 20 overs. Hardik Pandya (71 not out) and KL Rahul (55) both hit half-centuries, helping India reach a 200+ score.
Cameron Green has established his worth as an opener, while Matthew Wade once again came to Australia’s rescue in a dramatic four-wicket T20 win against India in Mohali. Green made the most of his debut opportunity as opener by thumping 61 off 30 balls as Australia scored 109-1 from 10 overs in response to India’s 208-6.

Green’s exit triggered a 4-36 collapse as India clamped down on the run pace. Australia needed 55 off the final 24 balls to seal an unexpected series opening victory, and Wade delivered. Wade, the star of Australia’s T20 World Cup semi-final triumph last year, hit an unbeaten 45 off 21 balls to get Australia a victory with four balls to spare.
At a strike rate of 214, his knock contained six fours and two sixes. Green, who played a magnificent innings to show selectors what they will be losing out on at next month’s T20 World Cup, deserves credit for the triumph as well. Green was a surprising absence from the T20 World Cup team, but it didn’t stop him from getting Australia’s run chase off to a flying start.
The 23-year-old smashed eight fours and four sixes to help the visitors to win. If one of Australia’s top-order batsmen gets injured in the run-up to the World Cup, Wade expects Green to respond.
“The intention was always for Green to open today,” Wade explained. “The coach and captain believe it’s the ideal place for him to find his feet at T20 level, and he demonstrated today that it’s going to be the place for him for a long time.” Green’s ability to adjust to the opening slot and rebound from poor bowling numbers demonstrated maturity beyond his years.
The emerging star finished with 1-46 from three overs with the ball, including three consecutive sixes to end India’s innings. As good as Green and Wade were, India was forced to pay dearly for a poor performance on the field. Green was out on 42, Steve Smith (35 off 24 balls) was given a life on 19, and Wade was out on 23.

The inefficient bowling performance of India’s pacers was the most critical cause for India’s defeat. Both Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar had no swing, and batters were able to smash them all over the ground, making the Indian attack appear quite average. Bhuvneshwar Kumar conceded 52 runs in four overs without getting a wicket.
Standing ovation from the team mates 👏

While Indian bowlers struggled, India’s hopes were further harmed by a poor fielding performance. India missed key important catches that may have changed the game’s outcome. Green was dropped on 42, Steve Smith on 19 and Mathew Wade was saved while batting at 23.
Only a month before the T20 World Cup, the visitors have established a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series. The two sides will now head to Nagpur for the second Twenty20 International, which will be contested on Friday, September 23.
