Cristiano Ronaldo to leave Manchester United following sensational interview with Piers Morgan

Cristiano Ronaldo has agreed to quit Manchester United immediately following his explosive chat with Piers Morgan.

On Tuesday evening, United released a 67-word statement saying that they had achieved a mutual arrangement with Ronaldo to terminate his contract.

After significant claims he made in an interview, bringing to an end an illustrious career with the club. He departed without a payoff, and he has no constraints on where he may play next.

The Clubs statement said: “Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect. The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future. Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch.”

The Portugal captain, who is now leading his nation at the World Cup, claimed that elements of the United administration were attempting to force him out of Old Trafford and questioned him when he stated he couldn’t attend pre-season because his daughter was in hospital. The 37-year-old admitted to feeling “betrayed” by the club and having “no respect” for manager Erik ten Hag. In his interview, Ronaldo said of Ten Hag, “I don’t have respect for him because he doesn’t have respect for me.”

United had hired attorneys to investigate potential legal action against Ronaldo for suspected contract violation, but their preferred option was to arrange his exit, which was revealed on Tuesday.

Ronaldo, who has roughly £13.5 million left on his deal, said: “Following discussions with Manchester United, we have mutually agreed to finish our contract early. I adore Manchester United and its supporters, and that will never change. However, it appears that the time has come for me to seek a new challenge.”

Manchester United wanted Ronaldo’s departure to be “clean, swift, and respectful,” not just to minimise disturbance at Old Trafford but also to show some respect to Portugal during the World Cup.

Ronaldo reportedly claimed that he was offered a two-year deal for €305 million to sign for a Saudi Arabian team last summer, which Manchester United would have accepted, but Ronaldo refused to transfer.
