India vs Pakistan: Rain pushes match to reserve day

The Super Fours match of the Asia Cup 2023 between India and Pakistan was suspended on Sunday because to rain when India was 147/2 at the start of the 24th over. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul will now resume their batting on the next day (Monday), and the game will go on from there.

The outfield sustained significant damage as a result of the steady rain that started at 4:50 pm and continued for almost an hour. The India vs. Pakistan Super 4 match of the Asia Cup was forced into the reserve day, which was controversially added for this match alone as the tournament continues to be battered by wet weather in Sri Lanka, despite the groundstaff’s best efforts to clear the puddles. However, Monday’s outlook isn’t much better either, with thunderstorms and heavy rain expected in the evening.

India has made two changes to its starting lineup: KL Rahul has come in for the injured Shreyas Iyer, while Jasprit Bumrah has returned to the Indian lineup. After handing Nepal a 10-wicket loss in their previous meeting, India will also be optimistic about their chances.

The Green Shirts were kept waiting for their time at the bat after defeating India with their aggressive bowling squad in their previous match, which was washed out by rain last week at the Pallakele Stadium. With a goal of 267, India was dismissed for 266 against Pakistan in the 49th over. For that game, the points were split between the two teams.

In anticipation of the chance that rain could cause the Asia Cup Super Four match between Pakistan and India to be postponed, a reserve day has been added. There was a strong likelihood of rain on Sunday, particularly during the match hours, according to several meteorological projections.

Captain Babar Azam and Indian captain Rohit Sharma stood on the ground for the coin toss while commentator Ravi Shastri watched. Indian captain Rohit Sharma claimed they would have batted anyhow after Babar Azam’s announcement of his intention to bowl first.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill unleashed on Pakistani spin-bowling all-rounder Shadab Khan after surviving an outstanding opening spell from pacer Naseem Shah. In the twelfth over, Rohit crushed Shadab for 19 runs, including two consecutive maximums. In the 15th over, Rohit faced him once again and defeated him, scoring 12 runs while he ultimately conceded 31 runs in two overs.

Together, Shubman Gill (58) and Rohit Sharma (56) added 121 runs for the first wicket. Before the play was stopped by rain, Shaheen Afridi beat Gill while Shadab Khan eliminated Rohit. KL Rahul (17 not out) and Virat Kohli (8 not out) will bat again for India at 147 for 2 in 24.1 overs. When the game was stopped, Shadab Khan was bowling, and he is anticipated to start attacking again on Monday.
