Gustav McKeon becomes the youngest player in T20I history to score a century
During the T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier Group B encounter at the Tikkurila Cricket Ground in Vantaa, Finland, France opener Gustav McKeon became the first teenager to make a T20 International century in men’s cricket.
McKeon, who is 18 years and 280 days old, is now the youngest T20I centurion in men’s cricket, surpassing Afghanistan’s Hazratullah Zazai, who hit a century at 20 years and 337 days in 2019. The 18-year-old had hit a 54-ball 76 against the Czech Republic in his debut T20 International.
He is also the first French cricketer to score 100 runs. Gustav got his 100 off 58 deliveries in his second T20I before being run out for 109. France’s opener hit five boundaries and nine sixers. This indicates that he hit sixes for nearly half of his total runs. France won the toss and chose to bat first. They set a goal of 158 runs for the opposition. The youngster’s century was in vain as Switzerland won by one wicket, surpassing France’s 157 for five with a four off the final ball of the run-chase.
