Army Red challenge coming up for Hyderabad FC

Hyderabad FC, the 2022 Durand Cup Group C leaders, return to play for the last time in Imphal on Saturday when they face Army Red Football Team in an intriguing match at the Khuman Lampak Stadium.

HFC have already secured their position in the knockout phase of the competition with three wins in their opening three games, but will seek to end their stay in Imphal on a high note.

Army Red have yet to win a game in this competition and have only two points after three group stage games. They are coming off a setback to TRAU FC in the previous round and will attempt to rebound in this encounter. The Services side is mathematically still in with a chance of qualifying, but they must win and rely on the outcome of the final Group C encounter between Chennaiyin FC and NEROCA FC.

Manolo Marquez’s team, on the other hand, has been in good form this season, with the likes of Bartholomew Ogbeche, Javi Siverio, Joel Chianese, Borja Herrera, Joao Victor, and Odei Onaindia all earning key minutes in the previous three games.

With four goals in three games, Ogbeche is presently the competition’s leading goalscorer. However, the Head Coach has utilised a range of alternatives thus far in the Durand Cup, and with qualification officially secured, we might see a few more changes to the lineup in this game.

HFC has scored eight goals, the second-highest total in the league, and surrendered only one, making them the competition’s equal top defence. They’ll try to keep the momentum flowing and gain confidence until the quarterfinals later this month.

The supporters in Manipur also played a role in making the first three games memorable, and with HFC in action for the last time here this season, the Khuman Lampak Stadium might be packed once more, influencing the outcome of this match.

The game begins at 3 p.m. IST and will be shown live on Sports 18 as well as streamed on the VOOT app.
