England wins the series 2-1 after defeating India by seven wickets in the last T20 match

Openers Sophia Dunkley and Danni Wyatt got England off to a terrific start, while Alice Capsey and Bryony Smith took England home. Dunkley and Danni Wyatt combined 70 for the first wicket as they chased 123. After losing three fast wickets, with Dunkley for 49, Capsey hit an unbeaten 38 from 24 balls to help England complete their target with 10 balls to go.

The result gave England a 2-1 series lead.

Sophie Eccleston had the best numbers with the ball, ending with 3-25, but England’s bowlers grabbed regular wickets, limiting India to 122.

England responded by chasing the target down, with Capsey closing the innings with back-to-back boundaries.

Earlier, India batted first and fell to 75-7 before reaching 122-8 thanks to Richa Ghosh’s scintillating 33 off 21 balls.

However, England’s field play was greatly better from the previous game at Derby, where they were defeated by an eight-wicket margin.

Sophie Ecclestone, the world’s top T20 bowler, led England’s bowling assault with 3-25, and she was ably assisted by veteran spinner Sarah Glenn, who took 2-11.

England dismissed both openers in the first four overs, and India failed to recover, with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur being out for five runs.

Wicketkeeper Ghosh led the rescue with five fours in her cameo at number eight, before Pooja Vastrakar’s 19 from 11 balls at the conclusion of the innings.

But it was a below-par total on a solid batting surface, and despite losing their seasoned batsmen in Dunkley, Wyatt, and Amy Jones, 18-year-old Capsey showed great composure and talent to seal the victory.

Sophie Ecclestone was awarded player of the match after getting three wickets and assisting England in limiting India to 122 runs.

After the match, the world’s top T20 women’s bowler stated that she had embraced the increased leadership duties this series.

“I was delighted to get some wickets today,” Ecclestone, who has been acting as vice-captain in the absence of Amy Jones, said. “I’ve had a great time serving as vice captain. It’s wonderful to have some authority and responsibility. Amy has obviously been an excellent captain to play for,” she added.

Harmanpreet Kaur, India’s captain, believed her side fell short with the bat but praised her bowling unit.

“We have to give props to our bowlers for the manner they bowled today, and we were in the game because of them,” she added. “We simply need to play to our strengths. We were unable to bat the way we desired.”
