Jake Paul vs Anderson Silva battle confirmed at the Desert Diamond Arena on October 29

While the YouTuber turned boxer has previously defeated former UFC and MMA fighters Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley, his next battle seems to be against one of the sport’s all-time greats: Anderson Silva.

jake1Despite his age, ‘The Spider’ Silva represents a true test for the ‘Problem Child,’ since he has a 2-0 record in the ring and is a prolific striker, having scored a significant win on the undercard of a recent Floyd Mayweather card. Silva is perhaps the best mixed martial artist of all time after a dazzling career in the UFC. He’s definitely among the top five. During his stint as middleweight champion, Silva set several records, but it was the manner in which he decimated his opponents that cemented his fame. However, this is a boxing contest. Having saying that, Silva is also a very good boxer. This is a very compelling matchup.

“I know that everything has a purpose in life,” Silva told reporters. “Nothing happens by coincidence. So I thank God for my health, my family, and my team for giving me this chance to continue doing what I love. I believe this will be the largest fighting event of the year, forever changing the sport.”

Paul has made no secret of his adoration for Silva, an MMA great who owns the UFC record for the most straight UFC victories and has now successfully moved to boxing. Silva held the UFC’s middleweight belt for a record 2,457 days after defeating Rich Franklin in October 2006. His 16-fight unbeaten streak in the UFC is still a UFC record. Silva made his comeback as a world-class fighter in June 2021, when he easily defeated former middleweight boxing champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in a controversial decision that wasn’t as close as the scores suggested.

Silva has also expressed his admiration for Paul and what he has accomplished in boxing in such a short period of time. Paul, who was named Sports Illustrated’s 2021 Breakout Boxer of the Year, last fought in December 2021, when he scored one of the year’s most stunning knockouts, a one-punch KO of former UFC champ Tyron Woodley. Despite their mutual adoration, Paul believes the fight will be over in five rounds and has promised to get a spider tattoo if Silva wins on October 29.

Paul has chosen his opponents wisely up to this point. Every new battle is a step up in competition, but this one stands out for several reasons.

Perhaps the most crucial factor is size. Until now, Paul’s only fights have been against far smaller opponents. Paul weighs 190 pounds, yet in his most recent battle, he faced Tyron Woodley, who competed at 170 pounds in his heyday in the UFC.

With a fighting weight of 185 pounds, Silva was the UFC’s middleweight champion. Not only that, but he frequently increased his weight to compete in the UFC’s light heavyweight class. At 205 pounds, he had arguably his finest ever performance, a sensational knockout of former champ Forrest Griffin in 2009.

Jake told reporters at the press conference: “I joined up for the world’s most difficult sport, and I adore it.” That’s what I’m made for, and I enjoy a good challenge. I grew up admiring Silva. For me, the fact that I’m even sitting here is weird; I need to take a minute to wonder, ‘Is this real with all the cameras?’ I was sitting on a couch as a youngster, watching this person, and now we’re here.”

“First and foremost, everyone ought to appreciate this person. Why? Because it allows everyone to consider something new, and I’m really delighted and happy to be here. How long ago did you come to take a photo with your brother? I’ve battled a lot in my life, and now I’m back with the next generation. That is proof that anyone can achieve anything in life if they believe in themselves and have a strong desire to do so,” Silva remarked.
