Holm has been a strong, persistent presence at the top of the bantamweight class since her debut season, which she finished with a spectacular UFC gold medal. Bueno Silva was 2-2-1 as a flyweight but has rapidly established herself as a danger at 135 pounds, earning three straight victories and two submission finishes over Stephanie Egger and Lina Lansberg.

Holm (15-6) has won three of her previous four fights, including a March unanimous-decision victory over Yana Santos. Holm, a former UFC champion best known for dethroning Ronda Rousey, is ranked fourth at 135 pounds. Bueno Silva (10-2-1) has three straight victories, the previous two by submission. Despite possessing some solid MMA grappling, Holm has every motive to keep this bout going. Despite her lack of offensive wrestling, Bueno Silva has won four of his six UFC fights through submission. It’s an odd combination of statistics for Bueno Silva, who has few takedowns, terrible ground control, and a lot of mat finishes. She’s simply so slippery on the ground.

Holly Holm has an outstanding 15-6 career record, with eight of those victories coming via knockout. This exceptional knockout percentage of 53% says eloquently about her striking skills and attests to her ability to deliver deadly strikes in the cage. It is worth mentioning, however, that Holm has yet to earn a single submission victory, indicating that her fighting style is based more on her striking talents than grappling methods.

Silva’s fighting style is more geared on grappling and submissions than Holm’s striking-focused approach. Bueno Silva has a career record of 10-2, although she has just one KO victory, giving her a KO rate of 10%. Her submission game, on the other hand, is where she truly shines, with an incredible seven submission victories, amounting to a 70% submission percentage.
Opinion: #UFC290 was unforgettable, but the upcoming #UFCVegas77 main event between Holly Holm vs. Mayra Bueno Silva highlights the growing apathy that makes such spectacles increasingly rare https://t.co/xBGWAAmzmo

With the title now empty and no information on a new champion’s bout established as of yet, it’s not unrealistic to believe that a solid performance from either lady today may put them in the running for a championship shot the next time out.
