“Influence of allrounder has become slightly less because of the Impact Player rule,” says MS Dhoni
Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has stated that the Impact Player rule in the IPL 2023 is a welcome addition to the event, but that clubs would require time to fully comprehend it and utilise it to their advantage.
The Impact Player rule has received a lot of attention in the run-up to the new season. Following the toss, each side may name up to five substitution players in addition to their starting Eleven. At any point during the game, one of them can replace a player from the starting Eleven, and that player is known as the Impact Player.

Mahendra Dhoni overcame a knee injury to lead the Chennai Super Kings in their IPL 2023 opener against the Gujarat Titans on Friday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Gujarat Titans won the toss and choose to bowl. At the toss, Hardik Pandya, captaining the Titans at home, paid tribute to Dhoni, saying: “Almost everyone has got motivation from Dhoni. I have always been a fan and an admirer of him.”

“It’s a luxury to have impact player. It becomes slightly easy to take the decision because you can use it at any time. Influence of allrounder has become slightly less because of the rule,” Dhoni said during the coin toss on Friday.
Meanwhile, after winning the toss, Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya selected to bowl first. “It’s always good to play here. New start, new season, quite exciting. Almost everyone in the country has got motivation from Dhoni. Been a fan and admirer of him. Want boys to enjoy it. The result will take care of itself. It’s different – I’ve left it in the coach. Ashu pa works all night on what needs to be done. I don’t know a combination for today,” Pandya said after he won the toss and opted to bowl.
“Were also looking to bowl. Looks a good wicket and I don’t think it will change. Don’t know if there will be dew because it rained last night,” Dhoni added.
“You want to play in front of people. This stadium is twice the capacity of other stadiums. Fantastic atmosphere. Preparation was good. We assembled quite early,” said the CSK skipper.
