Preview of India vs England First ODI in The Oval

The Schedule of cricket-playing countries are tight and matches are happening thick & fast. To set the tone, England had on the cusp of a milestone in Test cricket had overhauled a target of 378 against India on 5th July. West Indies defeated England in the limited-overs series in the early part of the year. Recently, India defeated England in three-match T20 series in the same stadium where England had surpassed 378 runs.

The Indian team too is facing areas of concern. One of the best players of India and World cricket, Virat Kohli is struggling with his form. Shreyas Iyer too is facing it tough to play the short ball. Mohammad Shami is all set to join Jasprit Bumrah for the bowling attack during ODIs, starting from 12th July.

What to Expect: Statistically speaking, The Oval has supported team batting first since 2017. The first batting team has won seven and lost six. As of today morning, the sky was clear, and few clouds could be seen but an overall good day to play.

Liam Livingstone could come for the middle order spot after the retirement of Eoin Morgan. Harry Brook and Phil Salt might get chances. Matt Parkinson and Brydon Carse could get a look in.

India most probably going to induct Shikhar Dhawan for the ODIs and select the specialist pacer, Prasidh Krishna.

Rohit Sharma on the new batting template of India, “Fifty over cricket is an extension of T20. There are slightly lesser risks but it does not eliminate risks, and we have to take them for a successful match. We need to change something somewhere and learn from team results.”
