Raphael Varane maintains he has no regrets about joining Manchester United

Raphael Varane insists he has no regrets about joining Manchester United from Real Madrid, despite his old club winning the UEFA Champions League last season.

The French World Cup champion joined Manchester United last summer amid considerable fanfare, but his season was marred by lingering muscular problems. Varane missed 17 games in total during the 2021/22 season, which saw the Red Devils finish in sixth place. While Manchester United struggled without Varane, Real Madrid dominated, winning the Champions League and La Liga.

When reporters questioned Varane if he regretted his choice to transfer to Old Trafford, he said, “Absolutely not. I believe that in football, you must push yourself and strive to grow, and I wanted to have another experience after spending ten years in the same area, so no. I think the Premier League is excellent, and Manchester United is a tremendous club, so there was no question about my decision.”

The defender also spoke on last season’s disappointment and how the team can improve moving forward: “It wasn’t the best season, the best outcomes. Obviously, I hoped to play more, but that’s part of the game, and we’re looking forward to the next season. I think confidence was crucial, and we lost confidence when we lost certain games. I think there are a lot of things we could do better, and we clearly want to improve for next season. I believe we require consistency as well as confidence.”
