Sri Lanka Cricket informs the Asian Cricket Council that it is unable to host the Asia Cup T20
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) informed the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Wednesday that the board will be unable to host the Asia Cup T20 due to the country’s economic and political turmoil.
The news follows the SLC’s recent decision to postpone the third season of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) owing to the ongoing turmoil. According to an ACC source, Sri Lankan cricket has communicated that owing to the current political and economic crisis in their nation, particularly in terms of foreign exchange, it is not an ideal situation for them to host such a mega-event of six teams on the island.
According to the official, SLC officials expressed a desire to organise the event in the UAE or another nation.
The ACC is also expected to make a statement in the coming days, considering that the Asia Cup is scheduled to take place in August and September this year, prior to the T20 World Cup in Australia.
The UAE is not the definitive substitute location. It might be another nation, possibly India according to the source. Sri Lanka cricket will first meet with Emirates Cricket Board officials to obtain final sanction for the tournament.
