Rohit Sharma Surpasses Martin Guptill and sets new records

India’s captain Rohit Sharma was in great form in the first T20I against West Indies. Rohit surpassed Virat Kohli and broke two records in the first T20I between India and West Indies. He hit 7 fours and 2 sixes on his way to 64 runs off just 44 balls.

In the inaugural T20I between India and the West Indies, India batted first and scored 190/6 in 20 overs. Rohit performed a 64-run innings, while Dinesh Karthik struck an undefeated 41-run knock off 19 balls, including four fours and two sixes. Arshdeep Singh, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravi Bishnoi each returned with two wickets as India won by 68 runs after restricting West Indies to 122/8 in 20 overs.

At the toss, Indian captain Rohit Sharma stated, “Ready to go. Good to have some time off. Pretty excited to get back and get things underway. First international game being played here, good to see the fans coming in large numbers. Facility looks good. Will have to look at how the wicket plays. Few guys have left, few have come back. Quite excited to get underway.”

West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran remarked, “Going to bowl first. Maybe there’s something on the pitch. Nice to know what you’re chasing. Looking forward to this series. We enjoy the format. We like to entertain. One spinner. Alzarri Joseph making his debut. Shimron Hetmyer back into the team.”

During this innings, Rohit beat Martin Guptill of New Zealand to become the highest run-scorer in men’s T20Is. Rohit currently has 3,443 runs in 129 matches in the shortest format, with 27 fifties and four centuries. Guptill, on the other side, has 3,399 runs in 116 matches, including 20 fifties and three centuries. Guptill’s average is 32.37, while Rohit’s is 32.48.

Rohit claimed the record for most runs scored in T20I history. Before the match began, he was 20 runs behind New Zealand’s Martin Guptill. Rohit also eclipsed former India skipper Virat Kohli for the most fifty-plus T20I scores.
