Sourav Ganguly chastised for his tweet against India’s women’s CWG 2022 team

The Indian Women’s Cricket team suffered a sad 9-run loss against Australia in the last match of the 2022 Commonwealth Games. After limiting Australia to 161/8, India was bowled out for 152 despite some great hitting by skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues. A middle-order collapse hampered India’s chances of defeating the strong Aussies.

Sourav Ganguly, President of the BCCI, has been caught in a controversy following one of his tweets on the Indian women’s cricket team. Ganguly issued a tweet following India’s women’s cricket team’s loss to Australia in the final of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022.

T20WomenCricket fans were outraged by Ganguly’s recent tweet on the Indian women’s cricket team’s tragic defeat. Following Ganguly’s remark, the audience began ridiculing the former skipper and mocked him mercilessly.

Ganguly congratulated the Indian team on their silver medal, but predicted that they would be dissatisfied with the loss because they were in a winning position in the match. “Congratulations to the Indian women’s team on their silver medal… But they’ll be sad because it was their game tonight…@BCCIWomen,” he tweeted.

t20womenComing into the finals, India struck first with Alyssa Healy’s wicket. Renuka Singh was able to get rid of the star batter. With a 74-run stand, Beth Mooney and Meg Lanning helped Australia recover. However, acrobatic efforts by Indian fielders and disciplined bowling enabled India limit Australia to 161/8. India lost both of their openers within the opening three innings However, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues combined for a 96-run partnership to keep India in the game. However, India continued to lose wickets and finally lost the match by 9 runs.

The tweet praised India’s efforts and congratulated them on winning a silver medal. Fans were not thrilled with Ganguly’s tweet as many thought it as it ‘disheartening’ to see the BCCI president tweeting the women’s squad will travel back home with disappointment.
