Durand Cup: Hyderabad FC crushes TRAU FC with 2-0 score
Hyderabad FC (HFC) opened their Durand Cup 2022 campaign with a 2-0 win against local favourites Tiddim Road Athletic Union (TRAU) FC at Imphal’s Khuman Lampak stadium. This was the second consecutive loss for TRAU in the competition.
TRAU FC, who had lost their first game 1-3 to rivals NEROCA, got off to a better start than HFC. They kept possession and probed for gaps in the HFC defence. However the ISL champions needed some time to get into the game. And once they did, they began to connect passes and generate opportunities.

Hyderabad kicked off the 131st season of the esteemed championship with two long range screamers from Halicharan Narzary (17′) and Borja Herrera (52′). With this victory, Hyderabad moves to second place in Group C. With ATK Mohun Bagan, Northeast United FC, and Jamshedpur FC all losing, Hyderabad FC ended the losing streak of ISL clubs.
They grabbed the lead in the 27th minute thanks to a fantastic shot from Halicharan Narzaray. Borja’s pressuring caused a mistake from the TRAU midfield, and the loose ball was pounced onto by Halicharan, who curled a fantastic strike from a distance into the top right corner.
After the score, Hyderabad slowed the game down, but the home side showed little desire to press for an equaliser. Hyderabad seized entire control of the game in the second half, continuing to play the stylish football that propelled them to the top of the ISL last season.

Borja, who was rightfully named Man of the Match, scored the second goal with a stunner in the 52nd minute. Mohammed Yasir found him on the right, and the Spaniard produced a superb first touch before firing a left-footed belter into the top corner. HFC maintained complete control of the game, creating many chances but failing to convert. They attempted to strike the bar at least twice but were unsuccessful. The likes of Joao Victor, Hitesh Sharma, and Chhangte were unlucky to strike the woodwork as Hyderabad kept the pressure on TRAU FC.
Bart Ogbeche, who came off the bench, and Javi Siverio both squandered good chances, but Hyderabad dominated the first half and won 2-0. Fullbacks Manoj Mohammad, Nikhil Poojary, and Abdul Rabeeh, who came on as a sub, were also good, but Hitesh Sharma’s performance in the middle of the field earned him the “Player of the Match” award for the evening.
Coach Manolo Marquez hauled in his regulars for the final half hour, thus ending TRAU’s game.

Manolo Marquez named five debutants in the Starting XI for the game, with the likes of Manoj Mohammad, Lalchungnunga Chhangte, Borja Herrera, Alex Saji, and Lalbiakhlua Jongte all starting a game for the first time in Yellow and Black.
Manolo Marquez and his team have three more group stage matches, the next of which is on August 26 against fellow ISL side Chennaiyin FC. TRAU FC will play Army Red FT next on August 28.
