Preview and Prediction: Aston Villa Vs West Ham United
Aston Villa and West Ham United meet on Sunday afternoon, both coming off poor beginnings to the new Premier League season.
West Ham are bottom of the table, while Villa are 13th in the table after three points from three games. West Ham United still hasn’t won a game this season. In fact, they still haven’t gotten a point or scored a goal. The Hammers have had a terrible start to the season so far. Aston Villa, which is led by Steven Gerrard, has also had a mixed season. In between an impressive home win against Everton, they lost to Bournemouth and Crystal Palace.
Since Aston Villa last won consecutive home games in the same season in January 2021, when Dean Smith was their manager, the club has not been able to repeat the feat. In their first three matches in the Premier League, Aston Villa have let up a total of six goals. The Hammers have only given up five goals despite the fact that they are now in last place in the standings. West Ham are attempting to win their fifth league game in a row against Aston Villa. Villa’s sole win in the previous 12 Premier League matches was a 1-0 success at home in May 2015.

Diego Carlos is the only big Villa player who won’t be playing. Gerrard is likely to start another strong team, just like he did against Bolton last week. Vladimir Coufal could play again for West Ham, and Moyes has alluded that Gianluca Scamacca is close to making his first Premier League starts.
Paul Merson, told SK reporters: “This is going to be a good game. West Ham have had an absolute nightmare of a start to their Premier League season. They punched above their weight last year but are struggling at the moment. I thought West Ham were unlucky against Forest – if you play counter-attacking football, you have to score the first goal.Aston Villa held on and got over the line against Everton, but they did lose against Crystal Palace. This is a big match for them. Steven Gerrard played a strong team against Bolton – that tells you everything you need to know. He needs to win matches.”

The decision of whether or not to return Philippe Coutinho, who was benched the previous week, rests with Aston Villa head coach Steven Gerrard. After suffering a slight knee injury during the previous week’s Carabao Cup triumph against Bolton, left defender Ludwig Augustinsson is likely to be eligible for selection on Saturday. Gianluca Scamacca, a forward for West Ham United who cost £30 million, has scored in his last two European games and might make his Premier League debut soon. Newcomer Emerson Palmieri may possibly make an appearance, although Craig Dawson has not been cleared to play.
Sutton wrote for BBC predictions : “These sides have both had indifferent starts to the season. Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard hung his hat on Philippe Coutinho and left him out last week to start with Emiliano Buendia instead, but things did not happen for them in their defeat at Crystal Palace.
Villa had a disappointing opening display against Bournemouth, too. I know they beat Everton, but things are not quite clicking and it is a big game for them with home advantage. West Ham have not got going either, although I think they will. They have lost the first three matches in the Premier League and David Moyes will maybe be feeling a bit hard done by.”
“His side performed strongly at Forest, ended up hitting the bar and the post and certain things went against them, but they did not do enough against Brighton, their bogey team. West Ham also have big centre half problems, and I think this will be a draw,” he added.
Predicted Players:
Aston Villa XI: Martinez, Digne, Cash, Konsa, Mings, McGinn, Kamara, Watkins, Bailey, Ramsey, Buendia
West Ham United XI: Johnson, Fabianski, Zouma, Rice, Soucek, Kehrer, Palmieri, Bowen, Fornals, Scamacc, Benrahma
Aston Villa and West Ham United are both in poor form right now. Both Aston Villa and West Ham will be eager for points after bad starts to the league season, which might lead to a very open and exciting match as both want to win. West Ham scored six goals in two European games recently, but they didn’t score in the Premier League. On Tuesday, in the League Cup match against Bolton Wanderers, Aston Villa scored four goals while playing away from home. West Ham have too much firepower to not grab some points against a Villa side that is short on confidence after their European victory.
We Predict West Ham United 2-1 Aston Villa.
