Anirudh Thapa (42’) opened the scoring for the Marina Machans but Joao Victor (56’ pen) and Bart Ogbeche (64’, 74’) helped Hyderabad fight back and register all three points from this crucial clash.
This victory propels Hyderabad to the top of Group C of the Durand Cup, with six points from their first two games. Manolo Marquez made up to eight changes to his starting lineup from the last game, and it was clear as the players in yellow and black took their time getting started.
The game began slowly and sedately, with neither club creating a clear opportunity until Thapa sprang up inside HFC’s box to amazingly finish a long ball from midfield minutes before halftime.
This left Hyderabad behind by one goal at the half, and the Head Coach made adjustments. Bartholomew Ogbeche, Sahil Tavora, and Nikhil Poojary all entered the game and had an immediate effect.

And it was a set-piece that put them in front. Mohammad Yasir from 30-yards out on the right floated one into a dangerous area and Ogbeche was left unmarked. He scored from close range, then added a third 10 minutes later.
The depleted Chennaiyin side found it too tough to handle as Lalchungnunga Chhangte, who came off the bench, set up Ogbeche for a bullet header to double their lead.
In the last minutes, the Marina Machans pressed aggressively in search of a goal. However, the goalie stopped Ajith’s low, powerful effort from outside the box. Petar Sliskovic struck the crossbar, and Chennaiyin had a number of late half-chances, but Hyderabad held on to secure all three points in a tense match at the Khuman Lampak Stadium.
