Asia Cup 2022: India beat Pakistan by 5 wickets, Hardik Pandya Player of the Match

In a thrilling India-Pakistan encounter, Hardik Pandya batted and bowled India to a stunning victory. Fans were treated to a classic India-Pakistan duel on a surface that suited both teams’ excellent fast bowlers. The two proud sides had not played a close match for some years.

Hardik Pandya was India’s best bowler and batsman, getting stats of 3/25 and then making an unbeaten 33 from 17 balls. With a six off the fourth ball of the last over, he won the match.

India’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya each took three wickets to restrict Pakistan to 147 runs in 19.5 overs. Pakistan also exhibited a number of excellent performances. Naseem Shah, a teenager making his T20I debut, was the hero of the show as he gave Pakistan a wonderful start by dismissing KL Rahul (0) in the first over. KL Rahul was deceived by a nice length delivery and pulled the ball towards the stumps.

“It’s important to asses the situation and use your weapons,” Hardik Pandya said. “The hard lengths particularly. But you have to use them wisely. When it comes to batting, the chances I take when executing, I’m likelier to pullit off when I’m calmer. I knew they had Nawaz waiting to bowl, and while we needed 7, even if we needed 15 I would have fancied by chances. I feel the bowler is under a lot more pressure than me. I just needed one six in that final over. I try to keep things simple,” Pandya explained.

Mohammad Rizwan tried to set the tone for Pakistan with his 43 following early wickets, but the Indian bowlers kept fighting back at a raucous Dubai International Stadium. Mohammad Rizwan hit 43 runs off 42 balls to lead Pakistan. Kumar almost got Rizwan leg before wicket with the second ball, but the wicketkeeper-batsman was able to overturn the call. In the first over, Azam hit a four, but he didn’t last long because Kumar caught him at short fine leg with a short ball. Rizwan sought to rebuild the innings alongside left-handed Fakhar Zaman, hitting a couple boundaries together.

After being smashed for a six and four by Rizwan, pace bowler Avesh Khan replied by coaxing a small edge behind from Fakhar (10) to enliven the Indian audience. The Indian fielders did not protest and only rejoiced when Fakhar went off, much to his partner’s astonishment. Rizwan then began a 45-run partnership with Iftikhar Ahmed, which was interrupted by Pandya with a bouncer that caught Iftikhar behind for 28. Pandya struck again to deny Rizwan his fifty, and he quickly added another to further limit Pakistan.

“Halfway through the innings, we still believed,” Rohit Sharma said. “That’s the kind of belief we want to have in this group, where you’re not in the game and you still manage to pull it off. We want to make sure they’ve all been given enough clarity around what to do in the middle. I’ll take wins like this over one-sided wins. The fast bowlers have done very well in the last 12 months or so. We were challenged at times but overcoming those challenges will take us forward. Since Hardik’s comeback into this team, he’s been brilliant. Had a great IPL too. His batting qualities we all know, he has been brilliant with the bat since he came into the team,” he added.

Kumar got two outs in two balls in the second-to-last over, but number 11 Shahnawaz Dahani stopped him from getting a hat trick. Dahani hit two sixes during his 6-ball innings before being dismissed by Arshdeep Singh, a left-arm medium-pace bowler who claimed two wickets. India’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 4-26 to eliminate Babar Azam’s team in 19.5 overs.

india winsWhen India started their run chase against Pakistan in the Asia Cup , all eyes were on Naseem Shah, who was given the first ball. In Twenty20 cricket, where you don’t have time to warm up, the 19-year-old debutant got right to work from the first ball. India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma, navigated the opening delivery with a single on the leg side.

After that, KL Rahul went on strike. Rahul, returning from an injury, relied on his experience to neutralise the threat, but misread the line of the delivery. Naseem threw a fast ball that travelled at 142 kilometres per hour, while Rahul simply dangled his bat at an angle. The ball went off the edge and hit the wickets. Rahul lowered his head and walked back, a first-ball duck. Naseem was celebrated by all of his teammates for his first T20l wicket.

“The way we started we were 10-15 runs short,”, Babar said. “We came back thanks to our outstanding fast bowling. Dahani stepped up with the bat which really gave us something to defend, but it’s a shame we couldn’t finish it off. We wanted to have 15 or so to defend for Nawaz, but that wasn’t to be and Pandya finished it off wonderfully,” he explained.

Chasing 148 for win, Ravindra Jadeja (35), and Pandya put on a crucial fifth-wicket partnership of 52 as India won with two balls to spare in Dubai.
