Asia Cup 2022: India crushes Hongkong by 40 runs
India qualified for the Super 4s after defeating Hong Kong by 40 runs. Hong Kong will be quite pleased of their pursuit, but the goal proved to be a little too lofty.
India batted first and set a goal of 193 runs due to fifty-plus scores from Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli. Hong Kong responded brilliantly, but the young Indian pacers struggled. However, as the Indian spinners entered the fray, the Hong Kong chase stalled.
𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸: A sparkling 98-run partnership from 42 balls between @imVkohli and @surya_14kumar takes India to 192-2 against Hong Kong. The two batters smashed 78 runs in the last 5 overs. 🙌🏾⚡️

India had to bat first and lost Rohit Sharma early on. After a sluggish 36 off 39 balls, KL Rahul was also removed. Still, Suryakumar Yadav took over from here and sent the Hong Kong spinners all over the field. He sped to his fifty in record time, but only after Kohli had reached his first international fifty since February. SKY smashed Haroon for four SIXES in his final over to reach fifty. Suryakumar Yadav hit 68 off 26 balls and Virat Kohli hit 59 off 44 balls to help India reach 192/2.
Of two stellar knocks, a dominating partnership, mutual admirations & much more 💥👌

Chasing a 193-run mark was never going to be easy for Hong Kong, especially with strong bowlers in the India squad. Arshdeep Singh removed Yasim Murtaza in the second over to get India off to a good start. Babar Hayat, on the other hand, made India’s bowling appear substandard. In the powerplay, he faced Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh.
Despite their best efforts, Nizakat Khan and Babar Hayatt ultimately fell short. India dismissed Hong Kong captain Nizakat Khan before the powerplay ended. Ravindra Jadeja deserves all credit for this. Despite this, Hong Kong managed to score 51/2 points on the powerplay.
With Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravindra Jadeja bowling in tandem, things were tricky for the underdogs. While Chahal did not take a wicket, he did keep things calm with 18 runs off four overs. Jadeja dismissed Babar Hayat with a straight delivery to finish with 1/15 in his 4.

In the absence of Hardik Pandya, Virat Kohli rolled his arm over to deliver one over in return for six runs. Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan, on the other hand, will be a source of concern for Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid. Both were outclassed by Hong Kong. Arshdeep finished with 1/44 in his four, while Avesh Khan gave up 53 in his four for one wicket. Kinchit Shah (30 off 28), Zeeshan Ali (26 off 17), and Scott McKechnie (16 off 8) made brief appearances for Hong Kong.
But it wasn’t going to be enough. Hong Kong eventually finished with 152/5 in 20 overs, losing the match by 40 runs.
Conversations to remember, memories to cherish and lessons for the taking! 👍 👍

Man-of-the-Match Suryakumar Yadav (68* off 26 balls) stated: “Some of them are predetermined, this format is all about what you think and how you prepare before you go out to bat. At the same time, you got to be staying in the present as well. I felt the wicket was a bit slow. My plan was clear. My role was to go in and take the tempo up and just express myself, I just loved it. (Adapting to different positions) you have to be flexible, you should be equipped to bat at any number and I have opened as well. I have batted at all numbers. I really enjoyed it.”
Indian Captain Rohit Sharma remarked after the match: “We batted pretty well to start with, got to a very good score. Came out and bowled reasonably well, we could have done slightly better with the ball. (SKY) The kind of innings he played today, the words will be short. We have seen that with him every now and then. He comes up with suck kinds of knocks. He just comes out and bats fearlessly which is what the team expects from him. Some of the shots he played today, those are not written anywhere in the book. It was very pleasing to watch. Shot selection was also crucial. We know he can play all around the park. We have also informed the group about this as well. Most of the guys are ready to take the opportunity and be ready to bat wherever required. That’s the flexibility we need. We’ll take those chances. We are going to try and use the right match-ups.”
High words of praise from @imVkohli for @surya_14kumar 👇👇

Hong Kong skipper Nizakat Khan stated:” The way we started with the ball, until the 13th over we were amazing. Our fielding was amazing as well. But we slipped after that. The way Suryakumar batted, it was good to watch. It was a good opportunity for all the boys. We were away for a long time, credit goes to boys and I am really proud of them. We are gonna sit down tomorrow, we’ll have a look at our death bowling. We will improve.”
Should we bow?
