Vakoun Bayo: “I’m Happy With My Goal but we have to improve.”
Despite scoring two key goals in two games, Vakoun Bayo feels there is more to come from him and the Hornets. The Ivory Coast international followed up Tuesday’s stoppage-time winner against Middlesbrough with a spectacular volley that earned Watford a point at Rotherham United.
“A striker has to score goals to help the team so I’m happy to score my second goal, but it’s not enough because we had to win this game,” stated Bayo after full-time at the New York Stadium.
“I’m happy for my goal but disappointed for the point. We tried but it wasn’t enough, so we have to improve,” Bayo added.
Bayo, a summer transfer from Charleroi, has previously played for Celtic, Toulouse, and Gent, and the 25-year-old feels Hornets fans have yet to see the best of him since his move to England.
“I’ve had a lot of clubs so I’ve gained some experience and seen some things,” he said.
“I have a lot of things to show to everyone so I’m happy to be here with Watford and I have to improve some things more to help the team.

“I always wanted to play in England so that’s why my first goal in the last game was so special for me. It’s hard [changing clubs] but it’s a challenge and I like a challenge, so I have to take it.”
Following the thrilling Middlesbrough win in midweek, Rob Edwards applauded Bayo’s dedication, and the Head Coach was happy with the striker’s impact in South Yorkshire.
“I’m really pleased for him again,” said Edwards. “Everyone can see his work rate and that was a fantastic goal, great technique and it’s one of those that gets people off their seats.
“He had one or two chances in the second half that he might be frustrated with but at least he’s in those right places to get the chances.
“Overall, I’m pleased for him because he’s someone who’s selfless and works hard for the team.”
