India wins by 6 wickets, defeats Australia in 3rd T20I

India’s Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to field first.

The hosts appeared to be on track to limit Australia to a low total until the newest T20 sensation Tim David demolished the Indian pacers in a remarkable display of power hitting. David batted 27 balls and hit four sixes and two boundaries before being caught by Harshal Patel, who finished with 1-18 after two overs.

Green was also the most impressive bowler for Australia, bowling three wicketless overs for 14 runs. Adam Zampa, who enthralled with his leg-spin in the previous match, gave up 44 runs in 4 wicketless overs.

Tim David and Cameron Green each hit fifty to help Australia to a commanding score. Green’s 21-ball 52, with seven fours and three sixes, put the hosts on the defensive. Unfortunately he received little help from the other top-order batters as left-arm spinner Axar Patel, India’s best bowler in the three-match series, hacked away at the other end.

Patel finished with 3-33, including wickets of skipper Aaron Finch (7), Josh Inglis (24) and Matthew Wade (1). Despite dazzling performances from Cameron Green and Tim David on Monday, India won the third and final Twenty20 against Australia with one ball remaining.

After India lost both openers, Rohit Sharma (17) and KL Rahul (1), early in their chase after Australia scored 186-7, Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav stabilized the innings. Yadav stole the show from the Aussies. Suryakumar and Virat Kohli put together a 104-run partnership off 62 balls for the third wicket, which won the game for India. India was trying to get 188 runs and was in a tough spot at 30 for two.

The Australians, who had appeared to be on top until that point, began crumble under the pressure. The Indians were 91 for two after 10 overs, five runs ahead of the Australians at that point in their innings. Kohli played a supportive role after Suryakumar revved up, allowing his junior to take on the Australian threat. The Indians scored runs in a steady stream beginning with the seventh over. Suryakumar hit four fours and three sixes in 29 balls to reach his half-century. He had 69 off 36 balls with five fours and five sixes when he left in the 14th over. Kohli went on to complete his half-century with three fours and three sixes off 37 balls.

Hardik Pandya, undefeated on 25, hit the victorious boundary to give the hosts a six-wicket triumph in the final over.

Rohit Sharma told reporters : “Hyderabad is a special place. We have had a lot of memories with the India team and with Deccan Chargers. We wanted to put up a show, and we did that well. The biggest positives was different individuals stepping up with the ball and bat. When you are sitting back and watching all of that happening, you feel nice as a management. Sometimes you can err in doing a lot of things. This is T20 cricket, and the margins of error are very small. I thought we took our chances, we were brave.Knowing Australia’s middle and lower order is tough to bowl at. Don’t really want to look into that. They are coming after a break, they will take time. Hopefully, they can get back in the groove.”

Post match Axar Patel said: “It feels good to do well and help your team win. Bowling in the powerplay is something I do in the IPL, and it feels good when you execute it well. I bowl, I back myself on the line and lengths. I believe in myself even if the batter hits a good shot. I try to carry out my plans.”
