Roger Binny to be appointed as new BCCI President

Former India allrounder Roger Binny is slated to become the new BCCI president, succeeding Sourav Ganguly, who is no longer anticipated to serve on the board. Binny will take over on October 18, when the BCCI has its annual general meeting in Mumbai.

After a week of frantic meetings and back-channel conversations, it was determined that the 67-year-old Bangalore resident would be the 36th Board president.

Jay Shah, the son of India’s home minister, will remain as BCCI secretary, the most powerful post on the board. Rajeev Shukla, the lone Congressman in the BCCI administration, will remain as vice president. Arun Singh Dhumal, Anurag Thakur’s younger brother, will now take over as IPL chairman. He will take over for Brijesh Patel. Ashish Shelar, a powerful Maharashtra BJP politician, will be the new treasurer, which means he will not be the president of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). He was scheduled to take up the post with the backing of the Sharad Pawar faction.

Binny has taken part in 27 Tests and 72 One-day Internationals. He finished the tournament as the competition’s leading wicket-taker, with 18 wickets in eight games. Binny was been appointed to represent Karnataka at the BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM).

binnyPreviously, Santosh Menon of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) was scheduled to represent the state at the BCCI AGM. According to rumours, Binny will represent the Karnataka unit this time, while Sourav Ganguly will represent the Cricket Association of Bengal.

It remains to be seen what Sourav Ganguly’s future holds. In 2019, the former India captain was overwhelmingly chosen as the BCCI president. Jay Shah was appointed secretary in October 2019. After the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators stepped down, the pair took over the BCCI’s activities.

During the Covid-19 epidemic, both Ganguly and Shah supervised a challenging period of administration, overseeing day-to-day operations and preparing important events such as the IPL. The age-cap provision that has brought Patel’s tenure to an end will also limit Binny’s tenure to one term of three years.
