2023 Asia Cup: Indian team won’t go to Pakistan says Jay Shah
Shortly after Indian cricket board secretary Jay Shah, who also serves as president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), stated that India would not be able to send a team to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup, Pakistan intimated that they would withdraw from next year’s World Cup in India. Jay Shah also stated that the competition will be transferred to a neutral location. Officials in Pakistan have also warned that it may “split” the world cricket community.

Despite being regarded as one of sports’ greatest rivalries, India and Pakistan have not played each other on home turf in any version of the game since 2012, and only compete in international events on neutral grounds.
“The Asia Cup will be hosted in a neutral location,” Shah told reporters after a meeting of the Board for Control of Indian Cricket in Mumbai on Tuesday (BCCI).”This is my opinion as President of the ACC. We can’t go there, and they can’t come here.”

On Wednesday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) responded sharply.”The PCB has observed with surprise and displeasure yesterday’s statements made by ACC President Mr Shah about the relocation of the Asia Cup to a neutral venue,” the board stated.
“The statements were made without any discussion or consultation with the ACC or PCB boards, and without any consideration for the long-term effects and implications.”
The PCB stated, “The cumulative impact of such utterances has the potential to fracture the Asian and worldwide cricketing communities.”
The PCB also stated in the press release that Shah’s words were “made unilaterally” and against the ACC’s “concept and ethos.”

It warned that such utterances might have an influence on Pakistan’s travel to India for the ICC Cricket World Cup and any subsequent ICC tournaments until 2031.
“Pakistan was granted the ACC Asia Cup with massive support and response from the ACC Board Members,” the PCB stated in a press statement.

The words by Shah came as a surprise given that Pakistan has welcomed cricket teams from both Australia and England this year.
Pakistan and India will face off in the Twenty20 World Cup on Sunday in Melbourne.
The news from India infuriated cricket-crazed Pakistan, notably former captain Shahid Afridi, who stated that the players had worked hard over the prior two years to establish “great comradery.”
