Arun Dhumal praises Ex-president of the BCCI Sourav Ganguly

On Tuesday, Roger Binny took over as head of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), succeeding Sourav Ganguly. Though there are still rumours surrounding Ganguly’s departure as president of the board, the newly-appointed Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman, Arun Dhumal, who was formerly the board’s treasurer, has praised the outgoing head. Dhumal spoke to reporters on several facets of the new tenure that the board is going to begin under Binny.

Dhumal claimed that when Binny’s name was mentioned, everyone on the board rejoiced. In terms of Ganguly, Dhumal stated that Dada has been a fantastic leader on the board and has always spoken in the best interests of the game. However, he also stated that there is no precedence of a president remaining in office for longer than three years.

ganguly“Sourav has been an outstanding leader in the BCCI. Sourav spoke up for the benefit of cricket,” Dhumal said. “When Roger Binny’s name was mentioned, everyone became enthusiastic.”

Dhumal stated that the name of the nominee for ICC Chairman would be determined by the office bearers.

“This isn’t just about the BCCI. We must also assess the sentiment of other cricket organisations,” he stated.

Dhumal stated that during his tenure as BCCI treasurer, the board’s funds increased two and a half times. While admitting that contracts for domestic cricketers are difficult to negotiate, Dhumal did indicate that domestic cricketers are satisfied with the price structure.

ganguly“As treasurer for BCCI, I had a rewarding tenure. During my leadership, BCCI finances have increased by two and a half times. The fee structure is acceptable to domestic cricketers,” he stated.

Dhumal addressed media claims that Ganguly was chastised for failing to perform properly during his three-year mandate. “In India, no BCCI president has served for more than three years. All of the media conjecture about Dada being told or a few members being against him is unfounded,” Dhumal stated.

“Nobody said anything negative about him. Despite the obstacles created by COVID-19, all Board members were quite pleased and delighted with the whole staff and how BCCI was operated during the previous three years. Dada had a stellar career as an India captain, ranking among the best leaders of all time. As an administrator, he led the entire staff and we worked as one unit,” he continued. Dhumal further stated that if Saurav Ganguly had accepted the post of IPL chairman, he would not have been appointed.

The Women’s IPL is generating a lot of buzz, and Dhumal believes women’s cricket will thrive in the future. The Women’s IPL will begin with five teams, including participation from current franchises in the men’s tournament.
