Danish Kaneria says BCCI and the PCB should arrange a meeting at a neutral venue to sort issues
With his recent comments on India’s potential trip to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023, Indian Cricket Board secretary and ACC president Jay Shah has sparked a new storm. Following Shah’s remark, the Pakistan Cricket Board responded by announcing that they may withdraw from the ODI World Cup 2023, which would be hosted in India.
However, the cricketing community has had conflicting views to PCB’s approach. Danish Kaneria, a former Pakistan spinner, has issued a remark on the subject. He went on to clarify that PCB is not in a position to oppose to their participation in the World Cup next year.
Shah, who is also the head of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), has announced that Team India would not travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023 and that the multi-nation competition will be moved to a neutral location owing to political concerns between India and Pakistan.
Former spinner Danish Kaneria, on the other hand, believes Pakistan would not be able to pull it off.
He stated on his YouTube channel,”The BCCI might very well decide to do that. The PCB cannot complain since the BCCI is the richest board in the world, accounting for 90% of the ICC’s total income. Pakistan may not agree with the BCCI’s stance on the topic, but all other boards must. England, Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand have all embraced the BCCI because they realise there is nothing without the BCCI.”
“The Indian board is quite powerful, but Pakistan’s current administration is rather weak. There were a few harsh officials on the Pakistan board who are no longer there. They would have to accept with what the BCCI says, and there is no need to feel terrible because it is owing to the political situation between the two countries, as the Indian board would not be able to obtain the necessary approval to travel to Pakistan,” he added.
Concerning the next steps, Kaneria stated that the members of the two boards, as well as ambassadors, should convene at a neutral location to address this situation.
“Officials from the BCCI and the PCB should meet in a natural setting. They may do it in Dubai in the presence of ICC officials. Both boards should form their separate core teams, which should include ambassadors,” he stated.
“India vs. Pakistan is the biggest match in the world, and fans adore it. People have even suggested that bilateral cricket be resumed. Some have proposed that Pakistan should not compete in ICC tournaments against India. But the fact is that Pakistan cannot do so because it cannot afford to. However, India has the option of refusing to play against Pakistan in ICC tournaments,” he told reporters.
“The Asia Cup will very certainly not be staged in Pakistan next year. It is not just the BCCI. Afghanistan may also refuse to come to Pakistan tomorrow,” he went on to say in the video.
