Possibility of rain remains high over the Pakistan-India T20 World Cup match on Sunday

The much-anticipated T20 World Cup match between Pakistan and India on Sunday (Oct 23) in Melbourne might be ruined by severe weather, with forecasts for the day predicting heavy rain.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology in Australia, there is a 95% probability of rain in Melbourne on October 23, most likely in the afternoon and evening. The game is set to begin at 7pm Australia time.

Along with the Pakistan-India game, the Australia-New Zealand match on Saturday is also under threat of being rained out or impacted by rain.

Earlier, the India-New Zealand warm-up match in Brisbane on Wednesday was called off without a single ball being played owing to persistent rain, and the Pakistan-Afghanistan match was also called off after the Green Shirts finished their innings.

iccBetter news from the west, where England will meet Afghanistan in Perth on Saturday, with a decent outlook for the evening. The competition goes to Brisbane and Adelaide later in October.

The Bureau of Meteorology stated in September that this year’s La Nia phenomenon may not extend all summer, but that is still bad news for the T20 World Cup.

“At the moment, this La Nia isn’t looking very powerful, and it’s looking like it’ll peak either pretty early in the summer or late in the spring,” said Andrew Watkins, the ABC’s head of long-term forecasting. “Which is a little strange, a little different from the La Nias we’ve seen in previous years.”

With a 60% possibility of rains in the afternoon and evening on Friday, the weather might potentially play a role on the last day of the first round in Hobart. Ireland takes on the West Indies, while Scotland takes on Zimbabwe in matches that may decide Super 12 positions. Hobart will then host further Super 12 matches, with rain expected on Sunday and Monday.

The last day of the opening round in Geelong on Thursday is looking good, with only a little risk of rain.
