After losing their first two matches on the final ball to India and Zimbabwe, Pakistan changed their team, increased the intensity, and won the last three games. The Netherlands then aided their chances by defeating South Africa and moving up to second place in the group. They then defeated their favourite World Cup semi-final opponent, New Zealand, to go to the final.
England began their campaign as one of the favourites, easily defeating Afghanistan. In their second encounter, they met Ireland in the weather, and they lost on a rain-adjusted target just as they were about to take control.

Their next match, against Australia, was called off due to severe rain. The 2010 winners then overcame their wobble, winning two games in a row against New Zealand and Sri Lanka to go to the semi-finals. A semi-final against India may have been difficult, but they scarcely broke a sweat when chasing the goal without losing a single wicket.
Both teams have won one World Cup each with Pakistan winning it in 2009 and England in 2010. Both sides are separated by only one position in the T20 team rankings [England second, Pakistan third]. Both sides recently competed in a seven-match T20 series, which England won 4-3.

England will be marginal favourites against a bowler-heavy Pakistan team because of their batting prowess and stronger fielding. England has won 18 of its 28 head-to-head matches against Pakistan, giving them a substantial edge in the overall head-to-head record. Pakistan has won nine games, with one game ending in a tie. England has won three of the past five matches, while Pakistan has won two.
Buttler and Hales, England’s opening duo, raced through the chase against India and will be crucial against probably the finest bowling squad in the competition.
