“Let us not judge our team on the basis of this performance,” says Sachin Tendulkar

In the T20 World Cup 2022 semifinal match at Adelaide Oval, Team India suffered a devastating loss to England, ending their tournament run. Sachin Tendulkar, the 2011 World Cup champion and a sporting star, encouraged the Men in Blue to bounce back following their colossal loss to England.

Tendulkar too expressed his disappointment about the degrading defeat. He cautioned the detractors, meanwhile, not to “judge” the team based on a single loss.

At Adelaide Oval on Thursday during the semifinals, England dominated India and defeated the Men in Blue by ten wickets after the batting lineup struggled and only managed to score a meagre 168/6.

“I know that the semi-final against England was very disappointing. Let us accept that we did not put up a good total on the board. 168 in Adelaide Oval is not great since the dimensions of the ground are entirely different and the side boundaries are really short. We were also unsuccessful in taking wickets. It was a tough game for us, a bad and disappointing defeat,” Tendulkar told reporters.

India scored 168 throughout the match, and while pursuing it, Hales struck 86 and Buttler made 80 to encourage their side to win the important match with four overs to spare.

According to Tendulkar, 168 at the Adelaide Oval was a poor total. He saw that the proportions of the ground are drastically different. Tendulkar stated: “The side boundaries are really short. Maybe 190 or so would have been a respectable total. 168 at Adelaide is similar to 150 or so at any other venue, and that is not a competitive total in my opinion.”

However, he responded to all the criticism directed at Team India following their elimination from the T20 World Cup on Thursday night and instead urged the team to make a successful comeback. The Indian squad captained by Rohit Sharma  performed admirably in the Super 12 stage, losing only one match to South Africa.

“To get to that Number 1 spot, it does not happen overnight. The team has to play good cricket over a period of time and it has done that. Let us not judge our team on the basis of this performance. Players also did not want to go out and fail. In sports, these ups and downs are there. We have to be in it together,” he concluded.

India will now visit New Zealand for a white-ball tour that will include three T20Is and three ODIs between November 18 and 30.
