Ishan Kishan: “Could have scored 300”, after record smashing double century
Kishan scored the fastest double-century in the history of men’s ODI cricket, off 126 balls, smashing the previous record of the quickest 200 in men’s ODIs, which was owned by Chris Gayle. Kishan scored his double-century in 138 balls against Zimbabwe in the 2015 ODI World Cup, laying the foundation for India’s 227-run win to end the series on a high note. Ishan’s 131-ball innings contributed to India’s final score of 409 for eight.
I cannot put into words what I’m feeling right now but I’ll try. I’m overwhelmed by the love, the messages, the wishes. This is an innings that will stay in my heart forever, a day that I won’t forget, and these moments that I’ll always carry with me. Thank you for everything 🇮🇳 pic.twitter.com/xlNzuWxA4w

Ishan seized the opportunity to open the batting for India in lieu of the injured captain, Rohit Sharma. After Shikhar Dhawan’s early dismissal, he and the second wicket compiled a record 290 runs. On the way, Kohli achieved his 44th ODI century and his first in 1214 days. However, Ishan’s spectacular knock eclipsed his efforts.
Kishan’s double-hundred against Bangladesh at Chattogram required only 126 deliveries. This is 12 balls faster than Chris Gayle, who previously held the record. Kishan had 15 more overs remaining when he hit the milestone and might have scored even more runs. Kishan scored 210 runs off 131 balls after sitting on the bench for the first two games. His exciting innings included ten sixes and twenty-four fours. The left-handed batsman was finally bowled in the 36th over, caught at long-off by Liton Das off Taskin Ahmed.

While conversing with the host of the broadcaster. Kishan said that he might have scored 300 runs with 15 overs remaining.
“I’m blessed to hear my name alongside such legends. Still feel when I got out, 15 overs were left. Could’ve scored 300 also! The wicket was too good to bat on. My intent was very clear, if the ball is there, I’ll go for it,” he told reporters after his innings.

Ishan also praised Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav for their support. “Batting with Virat bhai, he has such good sense of the game. He was calming me down when I was in my 90s. I wanted to bring it up with a six, but he said to get it in singles as it’s your first. Had a chat with Surya bhai – he said when you bat before the game, you see the ball well. I didn’t take too much pressure on myself. Just wanted to make use of the opportunity,” he added.
With this century, Ishan Kishan has declared his presence in the opening position, a position that will be crucial when India hosts the World Cup later next year.
