Women’s Super League Match Report: Everton vs Manchester United
Everton earned a well-deserved point on the road against Manchester United in the Women’s Super League on Sunday, drawing 0-0.
Brian Sorensen’s team worked hard and showed perseverance to extend their unblemished league run to four games with a solid defensive effort.
The Blues created misery at Leigh Sports Village as the hosts were top of the standings coming into the noon encounter.
Courtney Brosnan gave one of her greatest games in an Everton jersey, working with an alert defensive backline that shone throughout the 90 minutes.

The Blues were arguably unlucky not to depart with all three points as chances on goal for Aggie Beever-Jones, Jess Park, and Katja Snoeijs all went barely wide.
Everton had a strong start and might have scored as early as five minutes.
Rikke Sevecke was inside the box when a Nicoline Sorensen corner found her, and she climbed highest to connect with a headed attempt. Her attempt was just wide of the far post.

Everton remained a threat in the wide areas, looking to run behind a high Manchester United defensive line.
This was exemplified just before the half-hour mark with Sorensen’s strong run down the right. Her teasing ball nearly found a hopeful Everton runner.
The home team grew into the half, and after a sharp United breakaway attack, Lucia Garcia’s powerful effort struck the woodwork on 36 minutes.
Brosnan was called into action shortly after, having to make a strong save from Katie Zelem’s close-range effort.

Continuing to probe, United struck the post again. This time it was Alessia Russo who nearly put the home side in front.
The beginning of the second half saw much of the same, with United signalling their intent immediately.
It was Ella Toone’s turn to hit the woodwork this time, as she nearly put the hosts ahead.
With a flurry of reinforcements from the Blues bench, Everton worked hard and defended resiliently. However, the pressure persisted from a dangerous Manchester United attack.

This was demonstrated by Sorensen’s impressive run down the right shortly before the half-hour mark. Her tantalising ball came dangerously close to finding a hopeful Everton runner.
The home squad grew into the half, and on 36 minutes, Lucia Garcia’s thunderous drive hit the crossbar during a fast United breakaway attack.
Soon after, Brosnan was called into action and had to make a great stop from Katie Zelem’s close-range attempt.

Much of the same occurred at the start of the second half, with United indicating their purpose right away.
This time, it was Ella Toone’s turn to strike the woodwork, as she nearly put the hosts ahead.
Everton worked hard and defended tenaciously thanks to a flurry of substitutions from the Blues bench. However, the pressure from a threatening Manchester United onslaught remained.

Brosnan, determined to retain a clean sheet, produced another excellent stop as the Toffees’ backline continued to feel the pressure.
Despite United’s dominance, Everton came dangerously near with a fantastic counter-attacking play.
Due to a blunder by the opposing backline, Park was given an opportunity inside the area. She took it around the goalie but couldn’t get it on target.
Everton stayed dangerous on the counter-attack but were unable to break the deadlock to finish off an outstanding performance.

Nonetheless, the visitors held on until the final whistle to earn a draw at the home of a well-prepared Manchester United team.
Following the international break, the Blues will host Aston Villa at Walton Hall Park on Sunday, March 5th.
