“We Often Tend To Blame Others For Our Failures,” says Ravichandran Ashwin
Ravichandran Ashwin has praised Hardik Pandya following his decision to walk away from the World Test Championship 2023 final. The Indian team just won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 at home, securing their spot in the World Team Championship final against Australia. Hardik’s name quickly rose to prominence with India’s qualifying for the final, which will begin on June 7 at The Oval in London.
Love you bhai and I hope you have the best day and year ahead. I’ll try to be the HP papa to your son just like you’ve been the best to mine. Happy birthday my love @krunalpandya24 ❤️❤️❤️😘😘😘 pic.twitter.com/bahT4RcoC0

Hardik, on the other hand, put an end to all the speculation with a real remark that elicited a thunderous response from his colleague Ravichandran Ashwin on Tuesday. Hardik has not played a Test match since 2018 due to a persistent back issue. Yet, after an outstanding run as an all-rounder in white-ball cricket since his injury recovery in June last year, and with India in need of a balance in the squad with a fast-bowling all-rounder in English conditions, talk of Hardik’s return to red-ball cricket has begun.
In a video released to his YouTube account, Ashwin emphasised that it is unusual to see a player of Pandya’s stature admit that he is not yet ready to play Test cricket, and he praised his colleague for making a “right statement for the cricketing fraternity.” Pandya’s last Test match was in August of 2018.

“We have reached the WTC final, and many felt that Hardik Pandya must return to the Test side. Of course, those opinions were great since Hardik has done well in England with the limited Tests he has played there. But Hardik said that won’t do justice and, ‘I will come back when I feel it’s the right time to play Test cricket. I haven’t even played a one percent role in us qualifying for the final.'”
“This is a proper statement to the cricketing fraternity and to the entire world by Hardik Pandya. Just like how Prakash Raj says in the movie ‘Anniyan’, “He is trying to tell something to this world,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

Ravichandran Ashwin says Hardik Pandya deserves a lot of credit for acknowledging that he isn’t qualified to play for India in Tests right now. While many people blame others for their shortcomings, the seasoned spinner believes Pandya made a daring statement by admitting the truth. He elaborated on the talismanic all-remarks saying:
“We usually get attached to failure or success. Once we fail, we won’t accept that the reason for the failure is actually us. We tend to blame others for our failures. We believe in superstitions like a black cat came in front of me when I left and things like that. We find various reasons because, at the end of the day, we are all disappointed.”
“So, we try to find these excuses to get the next day going for us. Whereas Hardik Pandya has accepted that he isn’t eligible to play Test cricket at the moment. He stressed that people who are eligible must be selected instead of him. That was a big statement coming from a player like him. Hats off to Hardik Pandya,” concluded Ashwin.

The much-anticipated WTC 2023 final between India and Australia is planned to take place from June 7 to 11 at the Oval in London. With 61 wickets in the campaign, Ashwin was instrumental in Rohit Sharma and team reaching the final.
