CSK vs RCB: Virat Kohli fined for violating the IPL Code of Conduct

On Monday, April 17, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s star Virat Kohli was fined 10% of his match fee for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during the team’s eight-run defeat to Chennai Super Kings in Bengaluru.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a press release confirming Kohli’s punishment. According to the announcement, Virat was found guilty of violating Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct and admitted to a Level 1 offence as well.

Dube blasted two fours and five sixes in his 27-ball 52-inning performance. During his innings, Dube blasted RCB’s Wayne Parnell for a six around mid-wicket in the 17th over of CSK’s innings, but was beautifully caught on the boundary by Mohammed Siraj.

It was a crucial wicket for RCB since Dube was threatening to steal the game away with his powerful hitting. The RCB players understandably celebrated the breakthrough, with Kohli sprinting towards Siraj and yelling at the top of his lungs. The former RCB captain might also be spotted mouthing a few phrases.

It is generally believed that the ex-RCB captain was penalised because of this celebration. However, there is no mention of the cause for his punishment in the IPL statement.

Despite starting strongly, Kohli did not have a terrific game against CSK. Kohli was unfortunate after scoring a boundary against Akash Singh when the ball hit him off the bat and ricocheted into the stumps, prompting him to trudge back to the dugout in the first over of a 227-run chase.

Despite losing two fast wickets, RCB roared back in the chase with to skipper Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell. The international players battered the CSK bowlers to all areas of the Chinnaswamy, allowing them to reach their fifties in record time. However, once they were dismissed in fast succession, the RCB middle-order lacked the firepower to pursue the objective. They were only eight runs short.

“I think we played it perfectly, the last five overs were set up for the finish. DK finishing the game, that’s bread and butter for him, but that shows how good their bowling was,” RCB skipper Du Plessis said at the post-match presentation.

“We couldn’t manage to finish it off, but we got to move on. I lost a little bit of power towards the end, was disappointed as I got stiff. Need to keep going harder against the spinners in the middle overs,” he concluded.

As a result of the match, RCB are currently seventh in the league rankings, while CSK have risen to third.
