Mandar Rao Dessai to leave Mumbai City FC

It has been confirmed by Mumbai City FC that Mandar Rao Dessai will not be renewing his membership with the club after his current deal expires on May 31. After three excellent seasons with the Islanders, the left-back will be leaving the team to pursue other opportunities.

After spending the previous two seasons with FC Goa, Mandar made the switch to Mumbai City FC in October of 2020. The defender who was born in Goa was an integral component of the Islanders team that made history by winning a historic ‘double’ of the Hero ISL League Winners’ Shield and the Hero ISL Trophy in the 2020-21 season. This feat had never been accomplished before.

The year after that, the team elected Mandar to be one of the vice captains of the club, and he went on to represent Mumbai City FC in their historic run in the 2022 AFC Champions League. As a result of the Club’s performance, the Islanders ended up in second place in Group B despite winning two games and drawing one.

In the next season, 2022-2023, Mandar went on to win his second League Winners’ Shield with the Islanders. This time, it was in conjunction with Mumbai City FC, who set a new record by going 18 games without losing while on route to winning the league title.

After making 52 appearances over the course of three incredible seasons, Mandar departs Mumbai City FC as one of the club’s most decorated players. The Islanders will be grateful to him for the rest of their lives for the time and effort he put into the club.

Mumbai City FC said: “We want Mandar to have the very best of luck in all that the future has in store for him.”
