Boxer Sumit progresses to the semifinals of the Elorda Cup

On the second day of the Elorda cup, which took place on Wednesday in Astana, Kazakhstan, Indian boxer Sumit earned a spectacular victory, which guaranteed him the bronze medal in the 86 kilogramme weight category.

Sumit exhibited his strength and technique to defeat Kazakhstan’s Bekzat Tangatar in a one-sided encounter that resulted in a 5-0 victory for Sumit in their quarterfinal fight.
In the preliminary battle for the 51 kilogramme weight class, which took place between Zoram Muana and Daryan Kulzhabayev of Kazakhstan, Muana emerged victorious with a 4-1 split decision in his favour.

In the other bouts for the quarterfinals, Shivender Kaur (50kg) put up a brave fight but ultimately fell to Gulnar Tarapbay of Kazakhstan by a score of 1-4. Sonia Lather (57 kilogrammes) was defeated by Grafeyeva Viktoriya of Kazakhstan with a score of 0-5 in all judging categories.

Issayeva Shakhnaz of Kazakhstan prevailed against Poonam (60 kg) in a battle that was intensely contested but finally decided in her favour. Poonam came up short, losing by a score of 2-3. In the quarterfinals, Sanjay (80 kg) was defeated by Khabibullaev Turabek of Uzbekistan, who was a difficult opponent. The score of the match was 0-5 for Sanjay.

On Thursday, four Indians will compete in the quarterfinals of their individual contests, and they will do so inside the ring.

In the fights between male boxers, Pukharam Kishan Singh (54 kilogrammes) will face Daulet Moldashev of Kazakhstan, while Ashish Kumar (57 kilogrammes) will face Sukthet Sarawut of Thailand. Both bouts will take place in the same weight class. In what seems to be an action-packed bout, Hemant Yadav (71 kg) will face off against Talgat Shaikenov of Kazakhstan. This bout is sure to have fans on the edge of their seats.

In the women’s division, Shiksha (54 kilogrammes), who will be competing against Zhaina Shekerbekova of Kazakhstan in the round of eight, is getting set to show off her boxing prowess and her unwavering commitment in the ring.
