On Saturday at Mirpur, the third and final ODI of the three-match series finished in a draw as Bangladesh rallied from a deficit and bowled India out for 225. Thus, the three-match ODI series finished with a tie after the hosts won the first game and India came back to easily win the second. India, who needed to score 226 runs to win, fell behind the required total and went from 191 for five in the 42nd over to 217 for nine in the 48th, but Jemimah Rodrigues and Meghna Singh’s last-wicket partnership helped the side get back on track. However, Meghna was caught behind for six runs by Marufa Akter with one run still needed to win off the final four balls, much to the chagrin of the Indian Team.

Thus, the three-match ODI series finished with a tie after the hosts won the first game and India came back to easily win the second. With four wickets in hand and just needing 10 runs from 19 deliveries, India appeared to be heading for an easy victory. The visitors, who were chasing 226 for victory, saw a batting collapse in the closing stages, losing their final four wickets in the space of 16 balls. With the scores tied and the allotted time up, the match was declared a tie and the two teams split the trophy when India was all out for 225 in 49.3 overs.

Throughout India’s tour to Bangladesh, which comprised three Twenty20 Internationals and as many ODIs, there was no DRS (Decision Review System). The only method for viewers to keep up with the action was through a live feed on the Bangladesh Cricket YouTube account as there was also no live broadcast of the series.

Bangladesh Women 225/4 in 50 overs (Shamima Sultana 52, Fagana Hoque 107; Sneh Rana 2/45) tie with India Women 225 in 49.3 overs (Smriti Mandhana 52, Harleen Deol 77; Nahida Akter 3/37, Marufa Akter 2/55).

Harmanpreet Kaur, Indian Captain: “I think a lot of learning for us from the game. Even apart from the cricket, the kind of umpiring that was happening we were very surprised. The next time when we come to Bangladesh we will make sure we have to deal with this type of umpiring and prepare ourselves accordingly. They batted really well, batted according to the situation. They were taking those singles which were very crucial. In between we leaked a few runs but when we were batting, we controlled the game very well but as I mentioned earlier some pathetic umpiring was done and we are really disappointed about some decisions given by the umpires. My hand is fine. Harleen looked very promising in the last game, so we promoted her to bat freely and she took the opportunity with both hands. Jemi was really good throughout the innings. She played that crucial innings for us. Good game, lot of learnings and lastly our High Commission from India is also there and I hope you could have invited him here, but that is also fine. And thank you sir for coming here.”

Nigar Sultana, Bangladesh Captain: “Obviously, it was a great match, getting great experience. It will help us, when we won the toss, we wanted to put on 230 runs, happy Pinky got a century. At the end of day, we always think we are short of 5-10 runs. The way the girls fought, it was unbelievable. After the break, we were talking about the two ways the game would go – either we will go hard on them or they will. Nahida bowled really well. To all the bowlers, it was an excellent performance. We are looking forward to carrying this moment. As a batting unit we collapse usually, but from here, we can have many takeaways moving forward.”

Fargana Hoque, Player of the Series: “At the start of the tournament I felt I was in good flow and I was getting off to good starts. All my team-mates always say if someone will score a century, it will be Pinky. The plan was that if I batted long, we could get to 230. My hundred didn’t matter, the team getting runs was important. I was just playing from ball to ball. I love to bat. It was a great opportunity for me so I was just very happy to take it. My friends and family have always supported me and that’s why I am being able to bat like this. And not just me, there are many good batters in the team who can do better than me.”

Harleen Deol, Player of the Match: “Actually it was a good wicket to bat on. Initially we were struggling because we didn’t know the conditions that well. We were ahead of the game and we got out and then the game turned. Game plan was the same as last game – our players got settled, so Harry di went to bat. Today, we lost early wickets so I came in to bat. A lot of confidence comes in after a good knock. Want to take it forward.”
