Oleksandr Usyk defeats Daniel Dubois to keep his heavyweight world title

Oleksandr Usyk defeated British heavyweight Daniel Dubois via TKO in the ninth round. The Ukrainian was brutally felled in the fifth round following a contentious shot that resulted in a halt. Dubois argued after the fight that he had been robbed of victory, with his side maintaining that the stoppage was not caused by a low punch.

The WBC champion Fury is a better heavyweight than Dubois, and this is the right moment for the two of them to square off. Together, they have defeated previous champions Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua, and there is currently no other significant danger in their path.

At the open-air Tarczynski Arena in Wroclaw, Poland, referee Luis Pabon of Puerto Rico called out Dubois after he was knocked out 48 seconds into the ninth round. However, the decisive moment occurred in round five when Usyk, who was now 21-0, collapsed gasping for air after being struck on the band of his shorts. Dubois had also received a nine count at the conclusion of the previous round.

Oleksandr Usyk quickly turned his attention to his upcoming match after overcoming Daniel Dubois. Usyk claimed that he was eager to face Tyson Fury and that he preferred to do so as soon as possible. The contest between the two would be legendary.

While Fury is 33-0-1 with 24 knockouts, Usyk has a career record of 21-0 with 13 knockouts. There have been rumours that the two may fight in December, but that would have required Usyk to defeat Dubois and Fury to defeat Francis Ngannou in October.

However, after referee Luis Pabon determined that Dubois had struck Usyk with a low blow in the fifth round, which caused a lengthy delay, Dubois complained that he had been “cheated” out of the victory.

After hitting multiple blows to the head in the eighth round, Usyk bounced back to bring Dubois to his knees. Before the round’s conclusion bell rang, Dubois narrowly edged out the count. But after Usyk knocked Dubois to the ground, the fight was ended in the following round.

However, if Usyk hadn’t returned from his own knockdown in the fifth round, the 25-year-old Briton may have won. But after determining that the shot was a low strike, the referee gave the Ukrainian several minutes to recover. After the fight, Dubois challenged the referee’s interpretation, although there is debate on both sides of the issue due to the punch landing on Usyk’s waistline.
