Skye Nicolson successfully defends WBC crown defeats Raven Chapman
As the World Boxing Council Featherweight Champion, Australian Skye Nicolson successfully defended her title this Saturday at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, by defeating English challenger Raven Chapman by unanimous decision in one of the preliminary bouts of the “Beterbiev vs. Bivol” card. Nicolson was clearly victorious. She controlled Chapman’s assault, dictated the fight’s tempo, and the three judges’ scores of 99-91, 98-92, and 98-92 clearly favoured her. While Chapman lost his undefeated record, losing to 9-1 with two knockouts, Nicolson improved Her record to 12-0 with just one knockout.
At just 29 years old, Nicolson has established a solid reputation for herself as a skilled fighter who outmatches her opponents and chooses to take the initiative over going all out. Since making her debut in the featherweight class two years ago, the Yatala native has quickly gained momentum and amassed a remarkable record of 11-0 with 1 KO.
She may not seem like a formidable opponent at first because of her height of 5’5″ (166 cm) and reach of 68.5″ (174 cm). However, the WBC champion is adept at utilising her size and shape. That might potentially cause stress for Chapman as well. Despite being the senior of the two at thirty, Chapman has engaged in less bouts of fighting. That doesn’t lessen the dominance she has demonstrated during her flawless nine-fight record.
Chapman, on the other hand, is very different in that she like to exert pressure and make herself known. She can do a number on the champion and close the gap with her greater reach. She also has an excellent boxing IQ, meaning she can pick up blows and move quickly. It will all come down to whether or not she can strike a punch that deals harm anytime she switches positions and closes the distance. The evasive featherweight champion will make her second successful defence if she can neutralise Chapman’s strength.
The Australian Skye Nicolson became the first female fighter to win a battle in Saudi Arabia by successfully defending her world championship.
With a commanding victory over Raven Chapman, Nicolson successfully defended her WBC featherweight championship on the well loaded Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol event.
The 28-year-old defeated her opponent with a unanimous vote of 99-91, 98-92, and 98-92, demonstrating her superior class.
Now that Nicolson has a perfect 12-0 record in her professional career, her success has increased her chances of getting a match against one of the highest-paid female boxers in the world, Amanda Serrano.
