Pakistan wins Blind T20 World Cup 2024
Since 1996, the World Blind Cricket Council (WBCC) has regulated blind cricket, a modified version of the game for players who are blind or partially sighted. 2008 saw the start of the 40-over Blind World Cup, while 2012 saw the first Blind World T20.
Teams from India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, South Africa, Nepal, and Afghanistan competed in the fourth edition of the T20 competition, which was hosted by Pakistan this year. On November 23, the first game between South Africa and Pakistan began.
Nepal and Pakistan advanced to the tournament’s first semi-final, when the Green Shirts outclassed their opponents and held them to 94/7 in 20 overs. Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by a margin of six runs in the second semifinal.
After losing seven wickets in their 20 overs, Bangladesh stepped out to bat first in today’s last game and managed to score 139. Pakistan’s Babar Ali claimed two wickets in four overs, conceding 24 runs, while Bangladesh’s Arif Hussain was the top scorer with 54 runs on 52 deliveries.
Pakistan reached the mark in the second inning without losing a wicket in the eleventh over. Muhammad Safdar scored 47 and captain Nisar Ali scored 72 to help Pakistan win the global title and go unbeaten in the competition.
Bangladesh chose to bat first after winning the toss, however they were unable to withstand Pakistan’s well-organised bowling assault. Arif Hussain put up a strong 54 off 52 balls, but the Bangladeshi side was unable to find another batsman to steady their innings. Babar Ali spearheaded the assault by claiming two vital wickets, and Pakistan’s bowlers kept control. With one wicket apiece, Mohammad Salman and Matiullah helped limit Bangladesh to a respectable 139/7.
With seven wickets lost in their innings, Bangladesh, who batted first, set a goal of 140 runs. Pakistan secured a resounding victory by reaching the mark without losing a single wicket.
With an incredible half-century off only 22 balls, Nisar Ali spearheaded Pakistan’s attack.
Pakistan won the Blind T20 World Cup for the first time with this victory, and they were undefeated the entire time. India refused to send a team to the major tournament, which took place in Lahore and Multan.
The reason for India’s exclusion from the competition was the two countries’ continuing hostilities. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) refused to send their squad to Pakistan, citing security concerns. The dispute, which also hangs over the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which Pakistan is hosting, was further exacerbated by this decision.
