General elections for USA Cricket to commence
The general elections for the USA Cricket board, which have been postponed for over a year and a half as a result of continuous concerns with the organization’s governance, are finally expected to get underway on July 8. The polls will be available for voting for a period of two weeks, all voting will take place online, and the polls will conclude on July 22. After then, the results will be tallied by an impartial auditor prior to the winners being disclosed to the general public.
The elections were required to be held under the constitution no later than December of the year 2020. However, they have been slowed down by a variety of concerns, the most significant of which is a lawsuit that was brought in March 2021 by board members Venu Pisike and Srini Salver. The case challenges the eligibility of more than 12,000 newly registered voters. After the legal dispute was resolved in May 2022, board chairman Paraag Marathe declared that he would be resigning from his position within the organisation shortly thereafter.
Atul Rai, who is based in southern California and served as the president of the USA Cricket Association in the early 2000s and most recently served on the USA Cricket board of directors as the league director representative from 2018 to 2020, poses the greatest threat to the incumbent, Ajith Bhaskar who hails from New York. As the election for the club director position is taking place, Bhaskar faces his toughest challenge yet. Other contenders are Nikhil Deshpande of Virginia and Susheel Bhat of Michigan.
