Hangzhou Asian Games Postponed to 2023 from 2022
China is experiencing a few live cases of corona in a recent days. Therefore, as a precautionary measure, they have postponed the scheduled Asian Games, in Hangzhou, China from 2022 to 2023. The dates for the games were 10th to 25th September as originally planned.
China follows a zero-tolerance policy for the Coronavirus. Their largest metropolis Shanghai has been experiencing limited curbs from weeks. Hangzhou is around two hundred kilometers from Shanghai.
The spokesperson of The Olympic Council of Asia said, “The organizing body will declare the new dates for the 19th chapter of the Games. The organizing committee was ready to host the games despite the global pandemic. However, with stakeholder’s discretion, the safety of sportspersons, audience, and new variants of Corona, we have decided to postpone the sports extravaganza from 2022 to 2023.”
The organizing committee has inspected and confirmed that venues & facilities were completed in April. The Beijing Olympic 2022 was organized in a bio-bubble.
The revised dates were announced to prevent “conflict with other significant international athletic events,” according to the OCA. Aside from the Olympics, the Asian Games is the largest event held anywhere in the globe, attracting about 10,000 athletes from throughout the area.
Except for the Winter Olympics in Beijing, Covid-19 has resulted in the cancellation of numerous other athletic events in China during the previous two years. Aside from the Asian Games, the World University Games, which were planned to begin in June in Chengdu, have been postponed from 2021 to 2023, with dates still to be determined.
The change of dates will have a direct impact on the Indian Kabaddi team. It will impact the selection and might differ team combinations for the next ear. The Indian Kabaddi team was preparing in full swing. AKFI has announced a core-probable list of twenty-four players on 4th May after a camp in New Delhi.
The Pro Kabaddi League in 2022-23 will have an impact on next year’s selection for the Asian Games. There might be newer players and combinations after one year.
In Asian Games, the India Kabaddi team enjoys a prominent place with seven consecutive gold medals from 1990 to 2014. The Kabaddi team is all pumped up and ready to bounce back on the right note and get home gold again.
The 19th Asian Games, Hangzhou, China will have forty sports including swimming, badminton, athletics, archery, boxing, basketball, and so on. There will be 61 disciplines at Asian Games Hangzhou 2022. There will be 482 gold medals to compete with and bring golds to their homeland.
