Team Malaysia wins 3 Golds at Commonwealth Esports Championships
Malaysia’s esports team took home three gold medals in the Commonwealth Esports Championship in Birmingham, England. Malaysia won the eFootball competition, followed by the Dota 2 events for men and women.

Nor Haikal Noh, who plays in the esports unit of Malaysian Super League winners Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), won gold at the eFootball tournament after defeating Scotland 2-0 in the Finals.
“I am so happy, this is my dream. I have been waiting for this for years. It means so much to the people back home, lots of people are watching online, and I can hear all the messages coming in for me already,” Mohamad Haikal stated.
Grills Gaming continued the trend by defeating England 2-0 in the DOTA 2 Women’s Grand Finals. Stephanie “Auroraa” Lim, Nadrah “Nada” Saufi, Wong “HG” Wei Sian, Bette “iStarx” Chia dan Tan “Shizuma” Lyn Xhin make up Malaysia’s female Dota 2 team.
“What makes Malaysia so good at games? We have a lot of different cultures in our country but we come together very well, and that is our strength,” team captain Stephanie remarked.
In the Dota 2 Grand Final on August 7, Team Malaysia defeated Team England for the third gold medal of the weekend. William “MangO” Yeoh, Chung “Ws” Wei Shen, Denise “WOnder’boy” Danial Abdullah, Ahmad “ayhad” Ahyad Husam, Yong “LOyd” Bing Jie, Pang “ponyo” Sze Xuan made up the team.
