Callisto Protocol: Latest horror game pushes the genre to new heights

Set on a moon overrun by tentacled foes with dangling appendages, The Callisto Protocol is more interested in guiding you step-by-step through its squishy, moist, aesthetically spectacular maze than letting you enjoy the satisfaction of slaying its enemies. The purpose of killing is never to get to the next spot so that you may escape.

The player will take on the character of Jacob Lee, a victim of fate placed into Black Iron Prison, a maximum-security jail located on Jupiter’s moon, Callisto, in this narrative-driven, third-person survival horror game set 300 years in the future.

The jail is thrown into disarray when convicts begin to change into terrible animals. To live, Jacob must fight his way out of Black Iron Prison while investigating the dark and unsettling truths lurking under Callisto’s surface. Jacob will need to alter his tactics to defeat the quickly developing animals while scavenging to unlock new weapons, gear, and skills in order to outpace the expanding menace and escape the horrors of Jupiter’s Dead Moon.

Its developers are unabashed about creating one of the most brutal gaming experiences ever seen, thanks to advances in technology. The game was practically banned in Japan because the developers refused to change its material to comply with local classification requirements, which would have forced sequences to be edited and toned down.
