Resident Evil Village releases for Macs on October 28

The survival horror game “Resident Evil Village” will be available for Macs with Apple Silicon on Friday, October 28, allowing players to take control of Ethan Winters once more. The game is the successor to “Resident Evil 7: Biohazard,” which was launched in 2017. It was developed and published by Capcom in 2021.

Players take control of Ethan Winters, a dad searching for his abducted daughter in a mutant-infested community. Players scour the area for objects and resources, and the new game introduces action gameplay with a greater emphasis on battle.

VILLAGE

“The all-new plot opens with Ethan Winters and his wife Mia living quietly in a new place, away from their previous nightmares, a few years after the horrible events of the highly acclaimed Resident Evil 7 biohazard. Tragic events strike them again as they begin to create their new life together. When BSAA captain Chris Redfield raids their house, Ethan is forced to go through hell once more in order to reclaim his abducted daughter.”

Apple claims that its Metal 3 and MetalFX upscaling features help the game operate smoothly on its in-house created CPUs, which were originally intended for consoles such as the PlayStation and Xbox. The game won’t support any Macs that are Intel-based.

“Metal 3, the latest version of the software that powers the gaming experience across Apple platforms…MetalFX Upscaling enables developers to quickly render complex scenes by using less compute-intensive frames, and then apply resolution scaling and temporal anti-aliasing… Game developers also benefit from a new Fast Resource Loading API that minimizes wait time by providing a more direct path from storage to the GPU, so games can easily access high-quality textures and geometry needed to create expansive worlds for realistic and immersive gameplay,” Apple told reporters.

“Village” is the eighth game in the Resident Evil series, and as such, it contains several allusions to past titles. Those who have never played Resident Evil will still undoubtedly appreciate the game in the same way.

Resident Evil Village demonstrates that current “AAA” gaming on Macs is achievable as long as Apple and third-party developers collaborate to optimise titles. If more developers adopt Metal 3 and Apple’s strong CPUs, the future of Mac gaming seems promising.
