Ankle injury will sideline Everton defender Yerry Mina for eight weeks

Yerry Mina will not be able to return to action until the beginning of October due to an injury he suffered in last week’s match against Chelsea.

yerry minaMina moved to Everton from Barcelona following the 2018 World Cup, but his time at the club has been marred by injury. He has appeared in just 80 of Everton’s 153 Premier League matches since joining the club, including only 13 games in the last season. The 27-year-old has already reached the final year of his current contract.

The 27-year-old Colombian international was injured in the second half of the 1-0 home loss to Chelsea on August 6. Godfrey, Mina’s fellow center defender, was also forced off after falling awkwardly barely a dozen minutes into the game following a tackle with Kai Havertz, and was carried away on a stretcher and brought to hospital.Saturday’s 2-1 loss at Aston Villa was played without Mina in the Everton lineup.

Despite Godfrey’s three-month absence, Everton manager Frank Lampard maintained the club had adequate center-back depth. Conor Coady was brought in by Lampard from Wolves on a loan, while James Tarkowski, formerly of Burnley, was brought in by Lampard in the summer on a free transfer. He also has Mason Holgate and Michael Keane as central defenders on his roster.
