Tickets for the 2022 T20 World Cup clash between India and Pakistan sold out
The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Thursday that tickets for the eagerly awaited group stage match between Pakistan and India in the forthcoming T20 World Cup had sold out.
The ICC stated in a press release that tickets for the Pakistan-India match on October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground were sold out, with extra standing room seats “snapped up within minutes of going on sale.”
The current ticket allocations are also entirely sold for the double-header at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on October 27 featuring South Africa against Bangladesh and India versus the Group A runner-up, according to the press release, which encourages supporters to join the queue in the event that further tickets become available.
“Fans from 82 different countries have bought tickets to watch the world’s best players from 16 international teams,” according to the ICC, “marking the return of full stadiums at ICC events for the first time since the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2020, which ultimately resulted with 86,174 fans for the final at the MCG.”
“An official re-sale platform will be launched closer to the event, where fans can exchange tickets at face value,” the ICC said.
The council also stated that 500,000 fans have purchased tickets for the T20 World Cup, which is due to begin in one month. The 16-nation competition will get off on October 16 in Geelong, one of seven locations that Australia will host for the first time.
Last year’s T20 Men’s World Cup match between India and Pakistan had a record broadcast audience of 167 million viewers.
The highly anticipated match saw Pakistan make history by defeating India for the first time in a world cup tournament. The Green Shirts had inflicted a humiliating 10-wicket loss on their arch-rivals in the gripping game.
