Arshdeep Singh, one of the five pacers selected for the T20 World Cup
Arshdeep Singh, a young Indian bowler, has been on a rampage since making his international debut against England in T20Is earlier this year. Since then, the Punjab-born pacer has been unstoppable, hitting new heights with each game. He is now one of India’s most economical bowlers, recognised for halting run-flow in death overs.
His family, who have been strongly committed in the left arm quick’s career, saw his selection as the climax of a roller coaster journey of emotions, which included a recent event of young Arshdeep being extensively harassed online after losing Pakistan’s Asif Ali’s catch during India’s Super 4 battle at the Asia Cup. Arshdeep received a lot of flak for dropping a pretty straightforward catch of Asif Ali during the Asia Cup Super 4 match against Pakistan. The selectors, on the other hand, believed in him and picked him to India’s T20 World Cup team. Arshdeep’s parents were overjoyed at his admission and described it as a dream come true.
“From helping India win to seeing India lose to Pakistan, Arshdeep has seen a lot in his brief India career.” Such experiences have taught him a lot, including the value of remaining optimistic at all times. Arshdeep’s mother, Baljeet Kaur, told reporters. “Seeing his name selected in India’s World T20 team is a great occasion for Arshdeep as well as the entire family, aside from the cricket fans.”
“I was praying in the evening when Arshdeep’s name was called. I also prayed for Arshdeep to do well in the forthcoming T20 World Cup so that India can win the trophy,” she continued.
Arshdeep grabbed two wickets in the first game against Pakistan and went on to take three more in the remaining four games of the Asia Cup. He has played 11 matches for India and has taken 14 wickets.
Arshdeep’s father Darshan Singh claimed that the Asia Cup and the lost catch will motivate him to always give his best.
“Playing in the World Cup is a dream for every player, and we are delighted that Arshdeep’s ambition has come true. He has always strived to give his all and assist India in winning, and he will do so once again. Moments like this cause people to think on their past challenges,” Darshan Singh remarked.
