Atlanta United and the New England Revolution are only two points apart in the Eastern Conference heading into their midweek MLS matchup at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Last time out, the hosts struck late to salvage a 1-1 draw against Orlando City, while the visitors rallied from 2-0 down to recover a 3-3 tie with Chicago Fire.

The Five Stripes enter the midweek showdown seeking to get one over the visitors after failing to win their previous four meetings since October 2019. Atlanta’s MLS woes continued on Saturday with a 1-1 tie against Orlando City. Gonzalo Pineda’s side have now lost four of their past five matches in all competitions. Atlanta is sixth in the Eastern Conference with 23 points from 15 games, two points and two places behind New England.

Meanwhile, New England is yet to find its stride, having been held to a tense 3-3 tie by the Chicago Fire last time out. The Revs have also gone four games without a victory, losing three times since a 2-0 victory against Toronto FC on May 7. While Bruce Arena’s team will attempt to snap their losing streak, they have struggled on the road, with only one victory and two losses in four games.
Atlanta United will be without Osvaldo Alonso (ACL), Erik Lopez (ankle), and Amar Sejdic (calf) for the foreseeable future. Caleb Wiley will also be missing from the Five Stripes team for a short time after helping the United States reach the knockout stage of the Under-20 World Cup in Argentina.

Veteran goalie Brad Guzan has returned from injury, and top scorer Georgios Giakoumakis will continue to lead the line for the hosts. New England also has a number of injured players, including Dylan Borrero (knee), Gustavo Bou (leg), Nacho Gil (leg), Henry Kessler (hamstring), Maciel (Achilles), and Tommy McNamara (leg). Bobby Wood, who has four goals and three assists to his record, will rejoin the Revs’ attacking line alongside ex-Juventus striker Giacomo Vrioni. DeJuan Jones and Emmanuel Boateng are set to play wing-back, with Matt Polster and Noel Buck anchoring the midfield.
It's A Midweek Matchup!
