“Dhoni will take medical advice for his left knee injury,” says CSK CEO Vishwanathan

Hardik Pandya’s team lost to CSK, led by Dhoni, in a match that was cut short because of rain. CSK won the famous prize at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Former India captain Dhoni allegedly played in the IPL 2023 with a highly bandaged left knee. At this point in his career, he had already won a lot of trophies. But the 41-year-old played in every single Yellow Brigade match.

Viswanathan, the CEO of CSK, gave an important report on Dhoni’s knee injury by saying that the former captain of India would consult a doctor before making a decision about his future with the Chennai-based club.

Earlier it was said that Dhoni would talk to his doctors before deciding whether or not to have surgery. The CSK captain is still hopeful that he will play in the IPL in 2024, and he hasn’t counted out the chance that he will wear the famous yellow jersey again.

“Yes, it is true that Dhoni will be taking medical advice for his left knee injury and accordingly decide. If surgery is advised, it can only be ascertained after reports come out, it will be completely his call,” Viswanathan told reporters of PTI.

Viswanathan said that it is up to Dhoni to decide what he wants to do about his future with the club. He was asked if it was possible that Dhoni could choose not to play for CSK next season, which could also boost Chennai’s auction purse.

“Frankly, we are not even thinking on those lines as we haven’t reached that stage. It will be completely Dhoni’s call. But I can tell you in CSK, we haven’t entertained those thoughts,” Viswanathan explained.

Viswanathan was asked if CSK’s leader N Srinivasan talked to the players after their fifth IPL win and if there were any celebrations. Viswanathan replied: “He is very happy but there were no celebrations. The players dispersed for their respective destinations from Ahmedabad. Also, if you have seen CSK, we are never big on celebrations.”

When asked if the fifth IPL win feels the sweetest, Mr. Viswanathan said yes, because so many of the top players have been hurt. “It’s all about team spirit and every player knowing his role which is very well defined in our set up,” he explained.

Dhoni played in his 250th IPL game on Tuesday. During the final match between CSK and GT at the Narendra Modi Stadium, he became the first Indian player to get 300 wickets. After leading CSK to their fifth title with a five-wicket win over Gujarat Titans, the former India captain also tied for the title of joint-most successful boss. After the game, Dhoni also said he wouldn’t lead CSK in 2024.
