West Indies defeat India by five wickets to tie the T20 International Series 1-1
Obed McCoy and Brandon King shone as the West Indies defeated India by five wickets in the second of five T20 Internationals at Warner Park in St. Kitts. West Indies’ top T20I bowling figures were 6/17 by Obed McCoy, who set the tone for the hosts’ triumph. With 2-23 from 3.4 overs, Jason Holder offered the greatest assistance to McCoy.
Hardik Pandya led the way with a run-a-ball 31. Rishabh Pant (24) and Ravindra Jadeja (27) also had starts but were unable to capitalise in a match that was delayed by three hours owing to a delay in the arrival of team kits.
In line with their new attacking approach, India’s strike rate at the end of their first seven overs was 9. Four top-order wickets were lost as a result. Rohit Sharma was caught off guard by extra bounce and fell to McCoy’s opening delivery of the game. McCoy struck again with the first delivery of his second over, luring interim opener Suryakumar Yadav into a long drive that forced the keeper to accept a thick outside edge.
India’s best partnership in the game, worth 43 runs, was responsible for keeping the total respectable and averting a disastrous collapse. Hosein (1/22) and Holder’s (2/23) ability to get a few modest overs in a row was crucial for the 7.1 overs and significantly slowed India down in the middle overs phase.

McCoy’s triple strikes in the last over snuffed out the Dinesh Karthik danger, ended Ashwin’s cameo, and had Bhuvneshwar Kumar caught behind (despite a hesitant review) to help India record their lowest first-innings total in the Caribbean.
When it was the Caribbean team’s turn to bat, opening batsman Brandon King scored 68 vital runs to guide a rather difficult but ultimately victorious chase.

The Windies were cruising at one stage, leading 71-2 when skipper Nicholas Pooran’s wicket fell in the 10th over. The wickets of King, Shimron Hetmyer (6), and Rovman Powell (5) all fell inside overs 13 and 19, leaving the West Indies requiring 17 off 10 balls with Devon Thomas and Odean Smith at the crease.
The hosts needed 10 runs to win at the start of the final over, and things became considerably simpler when Avesh Khan opened the over with a no-ball. Thomas then blasted the resultant free-hit for six, leaving the Windies needing only two from five. He then smashed a boundary off the following ball to finish 31 not out off 19 balls and give the hosts a five-wicket victory, tying the series 1-1.
